Making these technologies more accessible helps more households enjoy a cooler home in summer, a warmer home in winter, and smaller power bills every month,\u201d said Penny Sharpe, NSW Minister for Climate Change and Energy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>What Can The Loans Be Used For?<\/h2>\n<p>The loans can be used for a range of home electrification upgrades. We&#8217;ve included below a list of eligible upgrades, and linked to our explainer pages for each, so you can make an educated choice on the brand and size of system you need.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/panels\/\">Rooftop solar systems<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/battery-storage\/comparison-table\/\">Home batteries<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/hot-water\/heat-pump\/\">Heat pump hot water systems<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/hot-water\/\">Solar thermal hot water systems<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/air-conditioning\/\">Reverse-cycle air conditioners<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/ev-chargers\/\">Home EV chargers<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/gas-cooking-benzene-children-mb3180\/\">Induction cooktops<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/this-winter-insulate-the-roof-before-getting-solar\/\">Ceiling insulation<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/stop-winter-entering-windows\/\">Double glazing<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/winter-proof-house-insulation\/\">Draught-proofing<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/energy-efficiency\/heating-cooling\/\">Ceiling fans<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/safety-switch-trap-battery\/\">Switchboard upgrades<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) assessment can also be funded through the program.<\/p>\n<p>The inclusion of switchboard upgrades may be particularly useful for households planning larger electrification projects, where upgrading an ageing switchboard can add significantly to the overall cost.<\/p>\n<p>Program guidelines state that any applicable federal and NSW energy incentives must be applied before the loan amount is calculated, potentially reducing the amount households need to borrow.<\/p>\n<p>Properties that are social or community housing, or used for short-stay accommodation, are ineligible for funding.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_99886\" style=\"width: 1066px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-99886\" class=\"size-full wp-image-99886\" src=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/home-energy-saver-inclusions.png\" alt=\"home energy saver inclusions\" width=\"1056\" height=\"594\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/home-energy-saver-inclusions.png 1056w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/home-energy-saver-inclusions-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/home-energy-saver-inclusions-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.solarquotes.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/home-energy-saver-inclusions-768x432.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1056px) 100vw, 1056px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-99886\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The NSW government&#8217;s guidelines for the scheme stipulate that if you meet the above criteria, you should be able to secure a loan.<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Why Home Energy Saver Loans Matter<\/h2>\n<p>While the scheme doesn&#8217;t reduce the upfront cost of an upgrade, it allows eligible households to spread the cost over up to 10 years without paying interest.<\/p>\n<p>SolarQuotes&#8217; in-house factchecker, Ronald Brakels, believes the scheme could save borrowers thousands of dollars compared with a typical bank loan.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;If I wanted to borrow $15,000 for 10 years, which is the maximum amount and payback time under the scheme, then my bank would make me pay around $2,400 in interest in today&#8217;s money. So being able to borrow for 0% interest would save me thousands. But as a pillar of my society, my bank trusts me enough to let me borrow at a low rate. So the zero-interest loans can really shine for people who have less pillar-like characteristics,&#8221; Ronald said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>What About The $4,000 Discounts?<\/h2>\n<p>While the loans are available now, the discount component of the program is not expected to open until later in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The discounts will be available to households with a combined annual income of up to $80,000, or those with an eligible concession card.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the loan program, which is only available to property owners, renters will also be eligible for the discounts, provided they have their landlord&#8217;s permission to carry out the upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>According to the NSW Government, households wanting to access both a discount and a loan for the same upgrade should apply for the discount first, then use the loan to cover any remaining costs.<\/p>\n<h2>How Do You Access The Home Energy Saver Scheme?<\/h2>\n<p>More information on the process is available NSW Government&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.nsw.gov.au\/households\/grants-rebates\/home-energy-saver\">Home Energy Saver program website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Applications are made through the two finance providers involved in the project &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/brighte.com.au\/homeowners\/nsw-home-energy-saver-loan-by-brighte\">Brighte<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plenti.com.au\/home-energy-saver-loans\">Plenti<\/a>, who will assess, approve and manage loans under the program, and accredit and onboard the installers delivering the work.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth doing your homework on what home electrification upgrades you should actually get.
