Queensland sees last-minute surge for solar

10th Jul 2012

Solar panel companies throughout Queensland are expected to have seen a pretty significant rise in business yesterday (July 9) as people took advantage of the Solar Bonus Scheme.

Although the government rebate for solar power will continue, it has been slashed from 44 cents per kilowatt hour of electricity fed back to the grid to just eight cents.

Director of Eco Delight, Gary Patel told the Herald Sun that his company is one of those that has seen a sudden surge in business - but whether the trend continues is another thing entirely.

"It's now or never for customers to make the most of the incentive. We have had a rush with about a 300 per cent spike.

"We had 129 customers in Queensland in February and there have been 341 sign up in the past seven days. We look like [we are] having four months of solid work and then, I'm afraid, jobs will go."

Queenslanders have apparently been given the push they needed to take advantage of solar power - the real test will be how popular the systems are now the rebate has been slashed.
