Small electricity suppliers competing with the big boys?

28th Jun 2012

When it comes to choosing an electricity supplier, cost is one of the first things we tend to think about.

This is even more important now price rises have been announced across many parts of Australia - New South Wales alone could see costs increase by as much as 18 per cent on July 1.

As a result, people from all over the country are scrapping their loyalty to their existing supplier and instead going for the most affordable tariff - and who could blame them!

Companies such as Dodo and Momentum Energy have seen a rise in enquiries as they look to undercut their big name rivals, reveals news.com.au.

Momentum's chief executive Nigel Clarke said the company is more than ready to take on its competitors.

He commented: "Do I think we can compete with the big boys? Absolutely.

"We definitely can and are planning to take a share off the big guys."

So besides price, what sets these suppliers apart from their rivals? Nigel believes it is all to do with the level of service on offer.

"When organisations become big they become bureaucratic and lazy," he claimed.

So maybe size doesn't matter when it comes to choosing an electricity supplier!
