Solar is Australia's preferred energy source

27th Jul 2012

Believe it or not but Aussies are big fans of renewable energy - or that's what a report from the Climate Institute would have us believe.

Solar power is the preferred energy source for the country, as the group found that 81 per cent placed it within their top three preferred options.

Not only this, but it was the primary choice among respondents from every state, although solar energy received the highest number of votes in Western Australia.

In WA, 88 per cent of people said solar power was their first choice source of energy, followed by South Australia, Victoria and Queensland where 82 per cent stated it as their number one preference.

And the figures don't stop there - the Climate Institute discovered that women are more concerned about climate change than men and feel strongly about the actions being taken to prevent it.

Older Australians were revealed to be more sceptical about climate change and less likely to support action - just 57 per cent of people over the age of 55 believe in global warming.

Changing the minds of the sceptics is no easy task - but at least people are recognising the benefits of turning to solar power!
