World wakes up to the value of solar power

27th Mar 2012

Solar panels are cool. Fact. Not only do they help you generate electricity for your home, but help protect the environment at the same time.

It seems that it's not only us here in Australia who have embraced the solar panel, as worldwide production of these great inventions is on the rise.

Or at least that's what PHOTON International - The Solar Power Magazine claims is the case.

In fact, last year alone global production of solar panels grew from 27.4 GW to 37.2 GW - a 36 per cent increase for those of us who were less than attentive in maths lessons.

A gigawatt is the equivalent to one billion watts, showing just how strong our demand for solar is at the moment.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the majority of solar power systems are being manufactured in Asia, which can't help but work in the favour of us Aussies.

Six Chinese manufacturers alone are in the top ten solar manufacturers, while two are in Taiwan, meaning we're in a great position to be receiving all this technology.

If this trend continues, solar may soon become the norm - here's hoping!
