About Carrier

The inventor of modern air conditioning was Willis Carrier, who founded the brand in 1902. As far as inventions go, this was a very important one; but a development that has also seen electricity consumption skyrocket. That's not such a great thing while fossil fuels are the main electricity generation source. But increasingly air-con is being powered by renewables, particularly residential rooftop solar panels and home batteries that make running an air-conditioner as cheap as chips.

Carrier also led the industry by beginning the phase-out of ozone-depleting refrigerants in 1994.

Carrier offers hi-wall inverter split systems and ducted air conditioners for home applications.

Allure And Indigo Splits

The Allure and Indigo split/multi-split ranges each feature seven different models with capacities from 2 kW to 9.1 kW.

With regard to energy efficiency, an example is the Allure Series 2.6kW model, featuring a 6.5 ZERL star rating. Active energy control for the Allure and Allure plus range enables you to use 50%, 75% or 100% of the unit’s power as it suits.

All Allure and Indigo splits use R32 (Difluoromethane) refrigerant.

The indoor head unit of the Indigo and Allure has a noise level of 30 - 50 dB(A), while the outdoor units have noise ranges from 54 - 60.5 dB(A), depending on mode and model. 

Carrier's outdoor units feature anti-corrosive coating, while indoor hi-wall head units feature self cleaning.

The main difference between the two series is Carrier Allure (Plus) generally offers more advanced smart features, while the Carrier Indigo focuses on core efficiency and essential comfort.

Control and monitoring is via the Carrier App. A diagnosis feature allows you to test 97 functions, and another interesting feature is "Follow Me", which senses the temperature around the air con remote; using that to control the environment.

Ducted: QSH And QSM Series

The High Static Pressure QSH series is for residential applications; available in 8.6 kW to 17 kW capacities. It offers a static pressure of 200Pa, long ducted connection and constant air volume technology for optimal airflow.

The Slim Line Ducted QSM Series is geared more towards light commercial applications. They have a compact design to fit into most ceiling spaces, a static pressure of up to 160Pa and an eccentric fan design for improved performance.

The operating noise level of the outdoor units ranges from 67 - 71 dB(A). As with the splits, the refrigerant used is  R32 (Difluoromethane).

Again, control and monitoring is carried out via the Carrier App.
