Michael's Midea Air Conditioners Review & Verdict
Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.
The home we're in now has had a ducted Midea air-conditioner for about 13 years, set up for four zones. It wasn't regularly serviced for much of that time — the filters were totally clogged by the time I got to them and so thick with dust most of it peeled off in a single piece. But despite previous neglect, it's still kicking along and has some life left in it according to the technician who did the last service. To date, it has never had to be repaired.
However, we've spoken to a couple of installers who have said Midea doesn't have a great track record for reliability; so we may have been lucky.
A Midea system was originally purchased for our place as it was the cheapest option around at the time. It performs OK in the summer, but forget about heating during winter mornings below 5C as the outdoor unit continuously freezes up. Thankfully we don't get too many of those.
No doubt Midea split and ducted air-con systems have come a long way since our dinosaur was manufactured. But so too have other brands. So, would I choose a Midea system again? If our budget allowed, we'd opt for something else.
Midea Air Conditioners: Pros & Cons
- Comparatively cheap
- Some outdoor units are a bit noisy.
- Some installers report Midea doesn't have a strong record for reliability.
