About Rinnai

Founded in 1920, Rinnai & Co started out selling pressurised oil stoves and by the the late 1920s, developed a penchant for gas appliances - tabletop stoves, ovens, heaters, and hot-water units.

Rinnai Australia Pty. Ltd. was established in 1971, originally selling heating products. It is a subsidiary of Rinnai Japan Corporation and sources products locally and from Rinnai’s global manufacturing facilities. Rinnai air conditioners started being produced in the mid-1990s and today are manufactured in Japan, China and Australia, depending on the model.

Wall-mounted Split Systems

In full size split systems, Rinnai has a bunch of options  (all with R32 refrigerant) offering Coefficient Of Performance ratings ranging from 3.2 - 5.2, including:

• J Series: 2.5 kW to  8kW capacities, built in Wi-Fi and Voice control
  Star rating (average climate):  2.5 - 7 stars cooling, 2 - 3 stars heating.
  Indoor noise: 22 - 50  dB(A)
• JX Series: 2.65 kW to  8kW capacities, built in Wi-Fi and Voice control
  Star rating (average climate):  3.5 - 7 stars cooling, 2 - 3.5 stars heating.
  Indoor noise:  24 - 50 dB(A)
• T Series: 2.5 kW to  8kW capacities, built in Wi-Fi and Voice control
  Star rating (average climate): 2.5 - 7 stars cooling, 2 - 3 stars heating.
  Indoor noise: 22 - 50  dB(A)
• PB Series: 2.5 kW to  8kW capacities, built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, self-cleaning function and sleep mode
  Star rating (average climate): 3.5 - 5 stars cooling, 2.5 - 3.5 stars heating.

• CJ Series: Designed for Australia’s hot and humid northern climates

• CJ1 Series: For extreme northern Australian climates

In multi-split systems, up to 5 indoor head units can be used with one outdoor unit. Outdoor units have a noise rating ranging from 59 - 66 dB(A), depending on model and mode.

Rinnai's VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) system allows three to six indoor units to connect to one compact outdoor unit. Available in 1.5 kW to 6.3 kW capacities, VRF features include smart climate control with built in Wi-Fi.

Ducted Systems

In Rinnai's ducted air conditioners there's a couple of R410a models and also one using R32 refrigerant. These slimline models are available in capacities of 7 kW - 18 kW; offering features including optional Wi-Fi, programmable controller and an app that's compatible with Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Apple. They have a COP rating ranging from 3.9 - 4.4.

For heating and cooling capacities beyond the above, there's 20 kW and 24 kW options, also using R410a refrigerant and offering fast temperature control, programmable controller, and slimline design.

Warranty Information

Rinnai Australia says it offers a 7-year warranty (previously 5 years) on parts and labour, but at the time of writing we noticed the VRF mini-split was still indicating 5 years on the Rinnai Australia website.

In the case of a valid warranty claim, in its discretion Rinnai can elect to pay an amount equivalent to the cost of repairing or replacing a product. Note that the units must be serviced in accordance with the instructions set out in the service section
of the relevant Service or Owner’s Manual to maintain warranty
