Opal Solar was an Australian firm whose products were made by various manufacturers in China. In addition to solar panels and inverters, the firm also offered a home battery system.
Company Info
Opal Solar was launched in 2014, initially offering branded solar panels and then expanding into residential energy storage. The firm was locally supported through Solar Juice Pty Ltd, a Australian PV product wholesaler. In fact, the Opal Solar co-founders were the same pair that founded Solar Juice.
What happened to Opal Solar isn't clear, although having its panels delisted and a recall associated with some of its batteries with cells supplied by LG surely didn't help. Its website went offline sometime in 2023, but the business name registration was still current as at June 2025.
Opal Storage All-In-One Battery
Opal Storage was an all-in-one system that incorporated a hybrid inverter, battery packs, BMS (battery management system), a solar array DC switch, battery DC circuit breakers and all AC circuit breakers.
The battery system had a storage capacity of 13 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and maximum charge/discharge power of 6 kW. It had blackout features, offering up to 4 kW load support during an outage. There was also a smaller system option originally offered with 6.5 kWh capacity.
Opal Storage had an operating temperature range of -10 ~ 45C, and the cabinet measured 750 x 1550 x 410 mm.
This all-in-one system featured a Solax inverter and charger, a Solax-designed cabinet, a Solax Battery Management Unit and LG Chem Batteries. On that note, some Opal storage systems with cells supplied by LG are subject to a recall.
Warranty Information
The warranty for Opal Storage varied depending on the component. There was a standard 5-year warranty on the SolaX battery and inverter management unit, which could be extended for an additional cost. The LG Chem batteries had a 10-year warranty or a 40,000 kilowatt-hour throughput limit, whichever came first. There was a one-year warranty on the cabinet.
While Opal Solar may be no more, Solar Juice still has warranty responsibility.
