Company Info
Diatom Australia is a Western Australian company that owns the brand Earth EV. Aside from that, we don't much about them. Who produces their chargers and where isn't noted, but Diatom says it's backed by one of Europe’s largest electronic component suppliers. That doesn't necessarily mean they are manufactured in Europe either. The company supports trade only and will not sell chargers directly to the public, but they'll put you in touch with someone who will by contacting the firm.
For those keen on the idea, Diatom says it's building a network of privately owned charging stations that others can use — so that might be an option down the track for those who buy their product to generate a bit of income.
Earth EV Charger
The Earth EV charger is available in 7 kW (single-phase) and 22 kW (three-phase) models, and in tethered and untethered (socket) variants. The tethered version has a five metre cable, while the socket (untethered) version can accommodate up to 15 metre cable lengths.
This charger allows remote monitoring and full control via your phone and the company's app, and features Wi-Fi connectivity, LAN support and a 4G connection is available as an optional extra. Pre-configured for integration with a solar power system, the devices comes with the necessary CT clamps. Other features include dynamic load balancing, scheduled charging and OCPP 1.6J support.
On the unit there's a LED indicator showing charger status and a button to stop and unlock the unit. It also has an RFID swipe location.
Installation-wise, the Earth EV Charger has rear cable entry, avoiding the need for conduits on the wall for a tidier finish.
The socket version's measurements are 455mm (h) x 260mm (w) x 150mm (d), while the tethered units are 455mm (h) x 260mm (w) x 230mm (d). The charger is IP55 rated for water ingress and IP54 rated for dust, and has an operating temperature: of -30°C ~ 50°C.
