A subsidiary of China's Chint group, Chint Solar Zhejiang still manufactures solar inverters today, but the company has had a name change to Shanghai Chint Power System, or CPS for short.

Shanghai Chint Power Systems has been manufacturing solar inverters since 2009. It receives strong support from parent Chint Group, and inherited that company's 30 years' manufacturing experience. Chint says to date, more than 20GW of CPS inverters have been installed globally.

Chint Power Systems Inverters In Australia

Previously, CPS inverters available here were from the CHPI family, in 1.5kW, 2kW and 3kW capacities. Currently, Chint solar inverters approved for use in Australia are from the more recent CPS SCA family - from 4.6kW to 10kW in single phase and 6kW to 25kW in three-phase.

The single- phase CPS SCA inverters offer 2 MPPTs with a maximum efficiency of up to 97.2%. They are compatible with various PV modules based on a maximum input of 15A per MPPT. The communication interfaces provided are RS485/Wi-Fi as standard and 4G as an optional extra. Built-in Bluetooth and an app are included for local and remote monitoring, and these inverters support zero exports. The units offer IP65 and C5 protection, so they are suitable for use both indoors and outdoors, and have an operating temperature range of -25C - +60C.

All single phase Chint CPS SCA inverters in the 4.6kW to 6kW range measure 350 x 347 x 137mm and weigh 8.5kg. Dimensions and weights for above 6kW weren't available on the Chint Power Systems website when we checked. 

As for the three-phase CPS SCA inverters, they have the same maximum inputs, operating temperature range, communication interfaces, zero export support and app as the single-phase, but have a higher maximum efficiency - up to 98.2%. The three-phase units in the 6kW to 25kW range measure 398 x 460 x 190mm and weights range from 16.8kg to 20.3kg depending on the model.

Warranty Details

We weren't able to find warranty details for the older CHPI inverters, but for the newer single- and three-phase CPS SCA units, Chint Power Systems provides a standard warranty of 5 years. This can be extended (for a fee) to a maximum of 20 years. It's likely the same arrangements were available for the CHPI.
