About Hubei Surpass Sun New Energy Technology

China's Hubei Surpass Sun New Energy Technologies Co. Ltd.  manufactured a a full range of solar inverters from 1.5kW for home use to 1MW for utility scale applications. The company's inverters were once available in Australia.

Hubei Surpass Sun New Energy Technologies was part of Surpass Sun Energy (SSE) Group, but in March 2023 Borg Warner announced had completed its acquisition of SSE's electric vehicle charging, smart grid and smart energy businesses.

Borg Warner said the acquisition was an important move for its electrification business in Asia and would complement the company's existing charging footprint in Europe and North America. There was no mention of Australia specifically.

Hubei Surpass Sun Energy Inverters In Australia

As at May 2025, none of the company's inverters are Clean Energy Council approved for use in Australia and it appears Borg Warner may have ended solar inverter production - if it was still happening at the time of their acquisition.

The only Hubei Surpass Sun New Energy Technologies solar inverter previously approved was the PowerPlus-3KTL, which was a 3kW unit.  Unfortunately, any further information on this inverter - last approved for use here in 2017 - has been lost in the tubes of the interwebs.

With warranty on these units unclear, Borg Warner not having an Australian presence any more and the age of these units, it's likely not worth chasing a warranty claim unless your installer is still around. The same goes for a repair through other channels. It's time to choose a new inverter brand.
