Michael's Inspire Solar Inverters Review & Verdict

Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.

Australian firm Inspire Solar didn't last long - just a couple of years. The fact they reportedly sold re-badged crap inverters wouldn't have helped.

Inspire Solar Inverters: Pros & Cons

  • Company liquidated in 2011

About Inspire Solar

Inspire Solar - not to be confused with a still-operating Melbourne installation business of the same name - was a Sydney-based firm handling all aspects of design and installation of solar PV systems, and offered self-branded solar panels and inverters.

Company Info

Inspire Solar aimed to become the most recognized and respected solar company in Australia. That certainly didn't happen.

While the firm claimed to offer products manufactured using "highly advanced German production line techniques and materials", that statement was rather loose with the truth - their gear came from China.

The company offered solar inverters that were reportedly rebadged KLNE and Aerosharp inverters; brands not particularly well-known for quality or after-sales support. Both of those companies no longer exist - nor does Inspire Solar, which went into liquidation in 2011 after only a couple of years operating.

Inspire Solar Inverters In Australia

Inspire inverter models available here were the 1500 (1.5kW), 2000 (2kW), 2800 (2.8kW), 4000 (4kW) and 5000 (5kW). These were large, very heavy units (even for the time), with up to a claimed 98% efficiency. Aside from that we have little technical information on the devices.

Warranty Details

Inspire solar inverters came with a 5 year warranty - meaning any that are still operating (which is rather unlikely) are no longer covered and haven't been for a long time. Repairing an Inspire inverter simply wouldn't be worth the trouble or cost - so it's time to choose another (better) inverter brand.

I presume it is the inverter doing its job perfectly which has meant that I haven't paid for electricity since last December and even the bill I paid then was vastly reduced. Will see how it performs for the winter months when I have used my ducted aircon regularly.
