Michael's POWFUTURE Inverters Review & Verdict

Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.

In the 2010's it seems like every man and his dog were producing solar inverters in China. A comparative handful of companies supplying Australia with Clean Energy Council approved devices are still operating today, and PowFuture is not one of them.

POWFUTURE Inverters: Pros & Cons

About POWFUTURE

Powfuture Science & Technology Co., Ltd. was a Chinese solar inverter manufacturer headquartered in the city of Hubei, in Wuhan.

Company Info

Founded in 2011, PowFuture also dabbled in electric vehicle devices, rail auxiliary power supplies and other power electronics products.

The company vanished sometime in 2015 for reasons unknown - joining many other of its peers on the scrap-heap that went belly-up between 2010 and 2020.

PowFuture Inverters In Australia

The two inverter product lines available in Australia were the Powfuture Venus and Jupiter.

The single-phase Venus series were available in 3kW - 5kW capacities (3000TL, 4000TL and 5000TL). Featuring a maximum efficiency of 97.7%, these inverters were transformerless and offered two Maximum Power Point Trackers. Naturally (convection) cooled, the Powfuture Venus range had an operating temperature range of -20C - +60C, measured 660 x 350 x 180 mm and weighed 24kg to 25kg depending on the model.

The Jupiter family of products came in 1.5kW to 2.5kW capacities and only had a single MPPT. At 450 x 320 x 165 mm and weighing 15 - 17kg, they were significantly smaller and lighter than the Venus range. Aside from that, the general specs were similar.

Warranty Details

Powfuture inverters were covered by a 7-year warranty as standard, but a 10-year extended warranty was also available. Given the amount of time that has elapsed since the company went toes up, PowFuture inverters are no longer covered and it would be surprising if any installed in Australia are still operating. If yours is and runs into a problem, it's likely not worth the time and money to get it fixed - splash out on a new unit from another brand instead. Assuming you choose a good inverter, you'll be pleasantly surprised how far the technology has come - and what you'll get for your money.
