Michael's Steca Elektronik GmbH Inverters Review & Verdict
Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.
Steca is probably better known in off-grid circles, but the firm also produced (and still produces) grid connect inverters. However, none are Clean Energy Council approved for use here, let alone available in Australia these days.
Steca Elektronik GmbH Inverters: Pros & Cons
- Steca solar inverters were primarily manufactured in Germany.
- No inverters currently CEC approved for use in Australia.

Company Info
Steca Elektronik GmbH's parent company Katek SE was acquired by Kontron AG subsidiary Kontron Acquisition GmbH in 2024; after which Steca was renamed to Kontron Solar.
As for Steca's time in Australia pre-acquisition, why and when it exited the local residential grid-connect market isn't clear, but an ASIC notice dated July 2015 indicated an intention to deregister the Company under section 601AB. Section 601AB allows ASIC to deregister a company if it fails to lodge required documents within prescribed time limits, or if ASIC believes the company is no longer carrying on a business in Australia.
Steca Inverters In Australia
While the company is still operating as Kontron Solar and producing components, no Steca inverters (or units Kontron branded) are currently approved for use in Australia for grid-connect solar applications.
CEC-approved Steca inverters previously available here included the Coolcept StecaGrid 3000 (3kW), 3600 (3.6kW), 8000 (8kW) and 10000 (9.5kW). These lightweight units offered conversion efficiencies from 96.3% (8000 and 10000) to 98.6% (3000 and 3600). They had a graphical LCD display detailing energy yield values, current performance and operating parameters of the system.
These inverters had an operating temperature range of -15 °C - +60 °C. One of their weakness was an IP rating of 21 - meaning the units needed to be installed under cover from the elements.
Warranty Details
Steca inverters were accompanied by a 5-year warranty that could be extended to 10 or even 20 years at an additional cost. If your Steca solar inverter is experiencing problems but is still under warranty, try contacting your installer first for information on how to proceed with a claim. If that isn't successful, try contacting Kontron using the details above.
