Michael's Bosch Solar Panels Review & Verdict

Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.

Germany's Bosch Solar Energy AG officially came into being in 2009, but it was game over by 2013 due to plummeting panel prices from other manufacturers it couldn't compete with.

Bosch Solar Panels: Pros & Cons

  • Bosch exited solar module manufacturing in 2013.

Company Info

Bosch Solar Energy AG was structured in different divisions, each of which was in charge of the production of different solar PV aspects.

Bosch Solar Wafers GmbH specialised in the production of monocrystalline ingots and wafers, and SRS Silicon Recycling Services, a Bosch Solar Energy subsidiary, focused on the recycling of silicon. The Solar Cells division developed solar cells (how about that), while Bosch Solar Modules was in charge of (you guessed it) the production and sale of solar panels. This division also incorporated Bosch Solar Thin Film GmbH, which developed and produced thin-film solar modules.

Bosch also acquired a couple of other businesses along the way, including solar panel manufacturer Aleo Solar GmbH.

In 2013, Robert Bosch GmbH announced it would exit from the solar business and shutter some units while selling other assets, including its majority stake in Aleo - which interestingly enough is still in operation today.

Bosch Solar Panels In Australia

Most commonly installed here were Bosch c-Si M 60 solar panels with wattages ranging from 225W - 240W. They had an operating temperature range of -40~85°C and temperature coefficient of Pmax of -0.47 %/°C.

These 60-cell panels measured 1660 x 990 x 50.0 mm and weighed 21 kilograms.

Warranty Details

Bosch solar panels were accompanied by a 10-year product warranty and 25 year performance warranty. The performance warranty guaranteed at least 90% output power at year 10 and 80% at year 25. This means that panels installed in Australia would still be covered by the latter.

If your Bosch solar panels are having issues, try contacting the company that installed them first (they also have warranty responsibility). If they have disappeared, contact Bosch Australia using the details above for the next steps - and good luck!
