Michael's Aleo Solar Panels Review & Verdict
Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.
Aleo was one of the few German solar panel manufacturers still producing PV modules in that country in 2025, but announced during the first quarter of that year it was shutting down its plant. The firm seemed to offer decent panels, but didn't have an Australian office, which we think is necessary to offer the best local customer support.

Company Info
In 2009, Aleo became part of the Bosch group of companies (later sold off by Bosch) and in 2014 teamed up with component supply giant SAS Group (Sino American Silicon Products Ltd).
One of its Australian claims to fame is powering the Australian Casey Research Center in Antarctica with 105 Aleo solar panels.
The fact Aleo is still hanging on with local manufacturing says a lot given how many other German companies have given up and either gone belly up or shifted production to China.
Update 12 March 2025: We spoke too soon. Aleo has announced it is shutting down its only solar panel factory.
Aleo Solar Panels In Australia
Aleo solar launched the LEO family of panels in 2022, which superseded the P and X series and feature TOPCon cells. In 2025, twenty LEO models are Clean Energy Council listed in capacities ranging from 335W to 410W.
The LEO panels are available in three product lines, the "white" (silver frame), all black and Sol. In the 420W - 430W white and black ranges, the panels measure 1752 x 1144 x 40mm and weigh 22kg. In the 380W - 390W, measurements are 1564 x 1144 x 40mm and a weight of 20.5 kg. It doesn't appear the white or black LEO panels under 380 Watts are manufactured any more.
The Sol is an interesting product in that it's a Building Integrated PV (BIPV) solution designed to replace conventional roof tiles. These are available as 335W - 350W modules.
One of the stand-out features of all LEO panels is hail resistance. Most manufacturers observe the IEC 61215 standard that involves modules being able to withstand 25mm hailstones. Aleo LEO solar panels have 40 mm hailstone resistance (Hail-Class 4). This is pretty impressive, although it's unlikely any solar panels could stand up to some storms we've seen in Queensland - up to 14cm! But it provides a bit of extra peace of mind to those in hail-prone areas.
Warranty Details
Aleo has previously told us all panels imported into Australia have a 25 year product + 25 year performance warranty; although the warranty on the newest LEO panels (N series) these days looks to be 30 years for product and performance. If you strike issues, bear in mind your first contact should be with the company that installed the modules.
