Michael's Sungen International Panels Review & Verdict

Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.

China's Sungen started up around the same time Australia's home revolution was getting into gear. But the company didn't last all that long and had disappeared entirely by the mid-2010's.

Sungen International Panels: Pros & Cons

About Sungen International

Sungen International Limited was a solar manufacturing company that operated as a subsidiary of Anwell Technologies Limited, an integrated manufacturer of OLED, optical media and PV products.

Sungen was founded in May 2008 in Hong Kong. The firm had a factory in Henan, China where it produced thin-film photovoltaic modules along with conventional monocrystalline and polycrystalline panels. The company reached an annual capacity of 50MW in 2010 and 150MW in 2011, and had around 3,000 staff.

But it wasn't long after that the Sungen International website went dark (sometime in 2013) and the firm ceased operations.

Sungen International once had regional offices in North America, South America, Europe, Middle East, and Asia; but never in Australia as far as we can tell.

Sungen International Solar Panels In Australia

At one point, dozens of Sungen International solar panel models were approved for use in Australia, ranging in output capacities of 100 Watts to 285 Watts. Most of these were from the SG (thin film), and SGM (polycrystalline/monocrystalline) series; the latter available in both 60-cell and 72-cell configurations.

Warranty Details

Sungen International provided a product warranty of 10 years and a performance guarantee warranting more than 90% minimum rated power for 10 years and 80% minimum rated power for 25 years.

Of course, given how many years have passed since the company went kaput, even the performance warranty now is probably useless unless the local supplier/installer is still around.

If your Sungen modules have or are giving up the ghost, it's time to choose a new solar panel brand.

There has been little necessity to clean these panels to date due to regular rain and I have had no problems with their output. I am very happy with the systems productivity in terms of kw hours.

I have been carrying out daily checks to rate the performance of the panels, this is mainly done because in the past the power switch to the solar panels was turned off by persons unknown. The outage was idenmtified shortly after the power metres were read.

Living Power came and cleaned the panels 12 months after installation for a reasonable fee of $130. They also check the whole system for its functionality.
