How To Make SolarQuotes A Preferred Source On Google

How to add SolarQuotes as a preferred source on Google

If you use Google to keep up with solar news, battery rebates, energy policy or home electrification, you can tell Google you’d like to see more from SolarQuotes.

Google calls this feature Preferred Sources. Once you add SolarQuotes, our stories may appear more often in Google’s Top Stories or in a section called From your sources, when we’ve published something fresh and relevant to your search.

It only takes a minute.

What Does “Preferred Source” Mean?

A Preferred Source is a website you’ve told Google you trust or want to hear from more often.

It doesn’t mean Google will only show you SolarQuotes. You’ll still see stories from other websites. It simply gives Google a nudge that, when SolarQuotes has a relevant article, you’d like us to be easier to find in news-related search results.

For example, if you search for something like solar battery rebate, electricity prices, home batteries or solar panel news, Google may show SolarQuotes more prominently if we’ve covered the topic.

How To Add SolarQuotes As A Preferred Source

The easiest way is to use this link:

  1. Make sure you’re signed in to your Google account.
  2. Open the link above.
  3. Tick SolarQuotes if it appears in the list.
  4. Save your choice.

That’s it. Your preference is linked to your Google account, so it should follow you when you’re signed in.

Another Way To Do It From Google Search

You may also be able to add SolarQuotes directly from a Google search results page:

  1. Search Google for a current solar, battery or energy news topic.
  2. Look for the Top Stories section.
  3. Click the small Preferred Sources icon near Top Stories.
    Click the Top Stories icon
  4. Search for SolarQuotes or solarquotes.com.au.
  5. Select SolarQuotes, then refresh your results.

Google changes layouts all the time, so don’t panic if the button is not exactly where you expect it. The direct link above is usually the simplest option.

Why Add SolarQuotes?

Solar and batteries are full of noise: dodgy sales claims, confusing rebate rules, technical jargon and the occasional “too good to be true” offer.

SolarQuotes has been helping Australians make sense of solar since 2009. We cover solar panels, home batteries, EV chargers, hot water heat pumps, air conditioners and the stuff installers are seeing in the real world.

Adding SolarQuotes as a Preferred Source helps Google understand that you want practical, Australian solar information from people who spend a lot of time in this industry.

Can I Remove SolarQuotes Later?

Yes. You can manage your Preferred Sources in your Google Search settings at any time. If you change your mind, just untick SolarQuotes.

Does This Change Google Rankings For Everyone?

No. This is a personal setting for your own Google account. It tells Google what you prefer to see when you’re signed in. It does not force SolarQuotes to rank higher for everyone else.
