Michael's Daikin Air Conditioners Review & Verdict
Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.
The general consensus among installers and customers alike is that Daikin is one of the better choices in air-conditioning systems available in Australia. But expect to pay more and if you choose Daikin, have it installed by a Daikin specialist as they seem to have better communications with and parts supply from the company.

Price (below) is half of what I paid for two identical units installed at opposite ends of the house. Price includes the switchboard upgrade and the cost of the WiFi units.

Outlets are also sized for the room they heat/cool.
Builder only dealt with 2 companies, Daikin was the better option, although we almost gave up on this option when we saw the price. (I think anyone else would have installed it a lot cheaper, but we didn't want to retrofit RCAC).
Heating stopped working after 4 years, but this was due to installation error - service valves were not fully front-seated, and the refrigerant had leaked out. Once this was corrected no further issues. (So unhappy with installer that this happened, but happy that they fixed it quickly).
Using 'dry' mode, we can run the cooling through the entire house - 8 outlets - just using solar (7.5kW system), and still have solar leftover. ('Cool' mode uses more energy - can run 1/3 to 1/2 the house just from solar).
We don't use the timer - with several attempts (using the central control panel) I still can't work out how to set it up - instruction manual isn't great. Unfortunately, our system is too old to connect to wifi - maybe that sort of thing would be easier with an app.

I chose NOT to have individual Rev Cycle units in each room because we needed in excess of 6 plus multiple heads for our open space living/dining/kitchen with a vaulted ceilings - probably an additional 2 or 3.
Fortunately we already had 3 phase power.
Granted the unit-including installation- was NOT cheap but it used the existing ceiling outlets from the Gas Ducted unit.
The unit is AMAZING. It has 8 separate zones, is VERY responsive and heats and cools our very large living room with 5m tall raked ceiling without much effort. It is quiet when heating AND cooling. The external unit is audible outside but not overly given the size of the unit and what it is doing.
The unit was purchased without ANY rebates. I'm not sure that rebates were applicable to this type of unit (ducted as opposed to individual units) at the time I purchased it. If they were available, I was NOT made aware of them.
NOTE: the Unit that goes in the ceiling is HUGE. Expect modifications to Roof Trusses to accommodate the installation - and the modifications and engineering required to accomodate the unit do not come cheaply.
The system was in-situ when we purchased the home.
