Michael's Panasonic Air Conditioners Review & Verdict

Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.

Panasonic air conditioning solutions are among the favourites of installers we've spoken to. All else aside, a Panasonic air-con purchase is pretty safe in terms of warranty (5 years) as it's unlikely the company will be disappearing from Australia any time soon.

Warranty Information

Panasonic air conditioners used for residential applications in Australia come with a 5-year warranty covering parts and labour for faults due to workmanship or materials. To be eligible, the unit must be installed correctly and maintained properly. Those living on the coast should note that a warranty exclusion is rust or damage caused by exposure to abnormally corrosive conditions; but what's considered "abnormal" isn't clarified.

The Panasonic split systems RC AC 7.2kw system was installed over 10 years ago . While it works OK it is chalk and cheese compared with the MHI split systems RC AC in the other room of the same capacity The internal fan is noisy compared with the MHI and not nearky as effectivelyin cooling or heating the room. Choice consistently ranks the Panasonic with a low efficiency ranking of about 66% efficient compared with an equivalent MHI of about 85 or 86%. I wouldn't buy again.
We chose this unit out of 3 that we were looking at including Mitsubishi and Daikin. They were all fairly close in specifications and warranty, but the overall size of the Panasonic was a better fit for the space we had available (taller and slimmer), as well as the Panasonic having the Nanoe X Air Purification and slightly better airflow stats. There is minimal noise when operating at between 24-26 degrees (cooling), especially compared to our neighbours Samsung unit which continually sounds like its ready to launch into orbit.

The installation included the unit being plumbed into a downpipe to eliminate condensation onto the paving bricks when heating is in use, mounting off the ground on sheet metal feet with anti-vibration rubber mounts, as well as 8-zones and 10-outlets. It also included an AirTouch5 controller which is simple to use and has an excellent phone app.

The price also included decommissioning and removal of our Evaporative Cooling system, patching of the gyprock ceiling where the previous Evap Ducts were x 8, decommissioning and removal of our Vulcan Wall Heater as well as patching of the cornice for the flu and holes in the wall, as well as re-installation of roof tiles where the Evap Cooling and Heater flu once resided. The only thing it did not include was painting of the ceilings, but this was easily organised.
I have two 40 year old Panasonic Wall mounted reverse cycle units. One is still going strong and the other has recently stopped cooling properly, never had any problems with them up to now. I had a 2.5KW Panasonic split system installed in the main bedroom mid 2025, it has been working very well in the recent hot weather and is very quiet. Draws around 600W when cooling. Plan on replacing the large wall unit in the lounge with a Panasonic unit this year,
