But for households wanting to make the most of their rooftop solar, it's worth considering, provided they factor in the additional costs.

The company offers several models for home charging applications that are available to Australian EV owners.
EV Wall
The EV Wall is a wall-mounted AC charger with one Type 2 socket or an 8-metre tethered cable. It delivers up to 7.4 kW on single-phase or 22 kW on three-phase, depending on the connection. Its enclosure has IP54 ingress and IK10 impact ratings. However, Smappee recommends installing it out of direct sunlight, as excessive heat can cause the charger to reduce its charging power.
EV One
The EV One offers the same charging outputs as the EV Wall, but in a slim, freestanding unit with a Type 2 socket. Standing 1.1 metres tall, it's an alternative where wall mounting isn't practical.
EV Dual Wall and EV Dual Base
The EV Dual models provide two Type 2 charging connectors. The Dual Wall is wall-mounted, while the Dual Base stands on the ground. Each connector is rated up to 7.4 kW on single-phase or 22 kW on three-phase, subject to available electrical supply. Both offer individual displays, user access controls and OCPP support. Smappee describes them as prepared for future V2G capabilities, which should not be mistaken for currently available household bidirectional charging.
Smappee also produces EV Ultra commercial DC fast chargers, which are outside the normal home-charging market.
Smappee App
The Smappee app provides live and historical charging information and charging controls. New chargers use a free Essential licence for core functions, with advanced capabilities such as solar surplus charging, dynamic phase switching and tariff optimisation associated with the paid Smart subscription.
Some functions also require separate Smappee Infinity measurement equipment; tariff-related features may depend on local support.
Older Smappee chargers can operate under different software licensing arrangements. Anyone considering older retail stock should check the exact model and included features, rather than comparing purchase prices alone.
Warranty Information
Smappee's published standard manufacturer warranty on EV charger hardware is 24 months, subject to its terms, with longer terms or extensions available in certain circumstances. It generally covers hardware rather than all associated labour and travel costs. Australian Consumer Law rights apply separately from the manufacturer’s warranty.
