Definitely could have been better

Their engineer was great. He was the only person who could explain why the inverter needed to be overdriven. We signed off, paid the deposit and then he called and said that they had forgotten to submit the claim for the solar rebate so we had to pay half I think of the price increase. I told him that wasn’t my problem. They decided to wear the cost and then somehow, the number of panels they could install was decreased and the panels were installed flat. (I couldn’t check because the quote was online ) Install (which was subbied out) seemed to go OK.

In 2025 the inverter started screaming like a banshee. We turned it off and someone came out and said the inverter was installed incorrectly and the fan was gone. We waited weeks, and I sent a few follow up emails, and it turns out it is a firmware update (it may be a downgrade), meanwhile, our electricity cost was $500 higher. It was a known problem with Fronius, I had seen mention of it. We had to ask if it was a firmware problem.

Not sure about their QA on the install. The metal conduit for the cables almost entirely blocks the intake for the cooling fan. Still awaiting them to fix it, if they ever do.

Long story short, a bit of a mess really! I guess they are probably struggling to find good people, but quite an ordinary experience. I am miffed that they stuffed up the number of panels and that they are flat. They say it is because of the roof area, but drone footage shows spare area and I think it was just because they forgot to lodge the paperwork for the rebate and were trying to cut costs - same with the panels being installed flat.

Great design and implementation

Sales and quoting process was great. Leeson Solar uses opensolar for quoting and design and analysis and it provides the information I needed to make a decision on the options and design to go for.

The design process was quite good and the information provided by the OpenSolar web app allowed us to compare solutions and iterate through panel placements to optimise production of solar within the constraints of our roof. We had access to a design engineer at Leeson Solar as well and he performed a site visit prior to installation to update the design and confirm everything such as switchboard capacity, placement of inverter and panel placement on the roof.

Customer service was great, they were able to work around our schedule and the operations team were responsive to follow up emails. They were able to organise everything and coordinate with everyone such as the independant inspector for the COE, the retailer/distributer for the FIT and Solar Vic.

Installation went well, took over 1.5 days. The installers onsite were tidy, punctual and helpful. Great service!

The installation included 16 x Trina Vertex S 415kW panels (6.64kW), a Fronius Primo Gen24+ 5kW solar inverter, a Fronius smart meter for measuring and monitoring production and grid consumption, access to SolarWeb for monitoring and reporting, access to the Fronius inverter customer login page and wifi configuration.
