Michael's Effekta Regeltechnik GmbH Inverters Review & Verdict

Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.

Solar inverters from Germany's Effekta Regeltechnik GmbH were available in Australia in the early stages of our rooftop solar revolution. I don't think they were very popular for whatever reason (and I've seen a few reports of reliability issues), which probably explains why Effekta inverters are no longer available here.

More On Effekta

Effekta Regeltechnik GmbH was founded in 1984 under the name HJ Elektronik, then switching to its current name in 1990. The then-management team bought out the company in 2000.

Effekta solar inverters are manufactured primarily in Germany and their main production facility is located in Rottweil.

Outside of Germany, the company has branches in Austria, Spain and Hungary and the firm has distributors in Poland, the UK, Vietnam, Romania and Morocco. Missing from that list is Australia, but Effekta inverters were available here for a time through channels we haven't been able to pinpoint.

Effekta Inverters In Australia

As at April 2025, there are no Effekta Regeltechnik GmbH solar inverters approved for use in Australia by the Clean Energy Council.

When Effekta grid-connect solar inverters were available in Australia, there were several models; among them:

  • ES2200 – 2kW
  • ES3300 – 3kW
  • ES4200 – 4kW
  • ES5000 – 5kW

These were transformerless, convection cooled inverters with an LCD display and offered a maximum efficiency up to 96%. IP65 rated for indoor or outdoor installation, the ES series had a working temperature of -25°C - +50°C.

The 2kW and 3kW inverters had dimensions of 455 x 430 x 170mm and weighed 27 kilograms, while the 4kW and 5kW units measured 455 x 510 x 170mm and weighed in at a very hefty 29 kilograms.

Warranty Details

Effekta ES inverters came with a 5-year warranty that could be extended to 10 years for an added fee. If you're having problems with your Effekta inverter and it's still in warranty; before contacting their HQ in Germany, talk to the company that supplied/installed your unit as they have warranty responsibilities too.

Started switching itself off at the AC breaker intermittently after 12 months, and after 19 months it quit completely. It took 6 Months to finally get it replaced, costing us 100's of dollars in lost solar, and the company wanted us to pay $550 towards the new inverter.
