Michael's Opal Solar Inverters Review & Verdict

Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.

Opal Solar inverters weren't anything to get particularly excited about, but appeared to be decent units that were locally backed by a major solar wholesaler and distributor. Unfortunately, the Australian firm didn't last.

About Opal Solar

Opal Solar was an Australian firm selling self-branded solar inverters, panels and batteries for some years.

Company Info

Opal Solar was launched in 2014 and was locally supported through solar component wholesaler Solar Juice Pty Ltd, the co-founders of which also founded Opal.

While the Opal website went dark sometime in 2023, the business name registration was still current as at June 2025 and Solar Juice continues operating.

Opal's Clean Energy Council approved inverters for the Australian residential market were from the Opal-Switch Light range; in capacities from 1.5 kW to 5 kW. Approved models included:

Designed in Australia but manufactured in China, these were single or dual MPPT transformerless inverters featuring natural convection cooling; with maximum efficiencies ranging up to 98.1%

The Opal Switch inverter range could be monitored with Opal View app.

The CEC listings for Opal Switch inverters expired at various times during 2022 and 2023.

Warranty Details

Opal Switch inverters were accompanied by a 5-year warranty as standard, which could be extended to 10 years for an added fee. While Opal is no longer, distributor Solar Juice still bears warranty responsibility where warranty coverage remains.
