Michael's Zeus Appollo Inverters Review & Verdict

Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.

We're told Zeus Apollo inverters are rebadged. Not that there's a problem with that per se, but it depends who the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) is. They no longer appear to be sold in Australia.

Zeus Appollo Inverters

Zeus Appollo inverters are no longer on the CEC approved inverter list. This means if a system was installed with one, it couldn't receive the solar rebate.

Inverters they used to sell were:

Z20 Series

The single-phase Z20 Series were standard solar inverters, available in capacities of 3kW - 5kW and offered maximum efficiency of 97.80%. They all have dual Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), the same measurements (354 × 433 × 147 mm) and all weigh 13 kg. Their operating temperature range is -25°C ~ 60°C, and these inverters use natural convection cooling; i.e. no fan.

Z21 Series

The Z21 Series were hybrid inverters. The only ones listed as approved by the CEC as at March 2025 are the Z21I3K6D48 (3.7kW) and the Z21I4K6D48 (5kW), and these listings expire in September 2025.

Among the Z21's features were a maximum efficiency up to 97.6%, dual MMPTs, IP65 protection, 45°C full-load output, reactive power control, and programmable charge times and load prioritisation.

Another feature was emergency backup output (UPS) that provides up to 6900W of power during a blackout in the case of the 5kW model.

Both models measured 516 x 440 x 184 mm, but at 30 kg, the Z21I4K6D48 weighed 2 kg more than the Z21I3K6D48. Their operating temperature range was -25°C ~ +60°C.

It had a problem that gave repeated 'vac failure' notifications and the system shut down temporarily only to revive itself and get on with the job. I brought this to the attention of Vincent Selleck at 888Solartech without any follow up at all. Quite disappointing given that he had no problem spruiking the benefits of the inverter compared to other brands that they also could supply. Main sales pitch was that Zeus Apollo had an office in Brisbane and that with me being located in the Northern Rivers, help would never be far away.
I felt ignored and called up again 2 weeks later. This tim I spoke to Ahzlen Selleck instead and my lord what a difference! He was on to it straight away, explained the options we had and acted on the issue promptly by having settings adjusted remotely by ZA.

I would like to be able to choose the profile of energy use/storage. For instance, in our area we get quite a few power outages - approximately one/month. During bad weather Id like to be able to switch to a program that would preserve the battery SOC so that if (say) the family put on the air conditioning in the afternoon we dont face an overnight power outage with discharged batteries
