Michael's Daqo Panels Review & Verdict

Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.

Daqo New Energy is a goliath among the world's solar polysilicon manufacturers and Daqo solar panels were among the first budget-priced, good quality modules available for home installations in Australia.

While no longer produced, we haven't seen negative feedback from Australian owners since, so we assume Daqo panels still installed are generally continuing to reliably crank out clean energy.

About Daqo

Founded in 2007, China's Daqo New Energy is a leading producer of high-purity polysilicon. The company used to make solar panels under the Daqo brand name that were quite popular in Australia.

Company  Details

China’s Daqo New Energy Corp has a total nameplate annual polysilicon production capacity of 205,000 tonnes and is one of the world's lowest cost producers. Its prices were so low that in 2024 it was losing money hand over fist as a result of its involvement in cutthroat competition pushing down polysilicon prices to ridiculous levels. The company's gross loss was US $212.9 million in 2024, compared to gross profit of $920.7 million in 2023. But there doesn't appear to be a risk of it going belly-up at this point as it's one of those companies considered by the Chinese Government as too big to fail.

Along with polysilicon, the company also produced solar panels under its own brand in the early to mid-2010's. Why the company stopped manufacturing modules isn't clear.

Daqo Solar Panels In Australia

Daqo solar panels were introduced to the Australian home solar market in 2012. While they didn't offer anything particularly outstanding in terms of features or performance, they were competitive on pricing while remaining a good quality product.

Polycrystalline and monocrystalline Daqo modules were available here; ranging from 180W to 250W capacities.

While their panels aren't available in Australia any more (or anywhere else for that matter), chances are good that whatever panels you install will contain some polysilicon produced by the company. Daqo has supply arrangements with many major solar cell and module manufacturers.

Warranty Information

Daqo solar panels were accompanied by a 10/12 year product warranty and 25 year performance warranty; meaning that any panels installed in Australia would be covered by the latter at the very least. The performance warranty guaranteed power output would be no less than 80% of nameplate rating at the end of year 25.

If you're having problems with your Daqo panels, first try contacting the company that installed them before reaching out to Daqo HQ in China, as the local installer also carries warranty responsibility

There are 12 off 270 Watt panels (3.24Kw) and they are producing, overall, margenly higher power than was predicted at instillation.

They have performed as expected, and have thus far not given us any trouble at all. It's almost as if they're not there.
