Company Info

Founded in 1994, BMZ Group is headquartered in Karlstein, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and also has production facilities in China, Poland, and the USA. 

The company entered the lithium-ion sector in 2000 and the renewable energy storage market in 2015.  BMZ produces batteries for a wide variety of applications - renewables, mobility (particularly e-bikes), medical, industrial and even garden tools. 

BMZ ESS

As at March 2025, there doesn't appear to be any BMZ home battery systems available on the Australian market, and none have been approved for use by the Clean Energy Council.

But back some years ago, the company offered the ESS 7.0 here; which was a 6.74kWh battery with 5.4kWh nominal capacity. While not much on capacity, the ESS didn't lack on power - offering 8kW steady, and 16kW peak (3 seconds). And the BMZ ESS was scalable to 6 units - so, 40.44kWh nominal capacity. 

Compatible with SMA Sunny Island battery inverters, the ESS 7.0 was IP21 rated - meaning it needed to be installed inside.

Warranty Details

The BMZ ESS was accompanied by a 10 year/5,000 cycle warranty. But the company also mentioned "up to a 20 year lifespan", which could be considered by some as an express warranty of sorts. If you've had issues with your BMZ battery system, your first action should be to contact the company that installed it, as they also have warranty responsibility.
