- Given the nature today's Australian home energy storage market, specs of the SMA Home Storage solution are a little disappointing.

About SMA
Germany's SMA has been around since the 1980's and was once the most popular choice among quality solar inverter brands in Australia for home installations. While still a top-quality manufacturer, some of the shine has come off the firm over the years from relentless competition and a few missteps.

Company Info
Founded way back in 1981 and originally focused on inverters, SMA is based in Germany and still carries out some manufacturing there. The company officially began operations in Australia in 2007 and claims to have half a million of its products already installed across our country.
On the battery front, SMA started integrating storage into their systems around 2011, launching the first compatible modular battery. The firm introduced the Sunny Boy Storage 2.5 in 2016 and then an AC-coupled home storage system with a high-voltage lithium-ion battery.

- More modules can be added within 2 years of the original commissioning.
- Integrated black start function for back-up supply when combined with the SMA single-phase Sunny Boy Smart Energy hybrid inverter (SB-SE).
- Floor, wall or back-to-back mounting options.
- IP65 rating, so can be installed outdoors.
- -10°C to 50°C operating temperature range.
