Company Info

Founded in 1930 as Industrie Merloni, Ariston Group started out producing weighing scales. In 1960, the Ariston brand was launched and manufacturing of electric water heaters began. The company began producing heat pumps in 2000.

In 2022, Ariston Group announced the acquisition of Chromagen. Founded in 1962, Chromagen develops, manufactures and markets renewable hot water solutions.

Ariston Heat Pump Hot Water Systems

Ariston heat pumps have been marketed in Australia as Chromagen Ariston Primos systems; available in 205L and 280L capacities. These are all-in-one systems.

Features include:

• Designed and engineered in Italy (made in China)
• Titanium (permanent) and magnesium (backup) anodes
• R290 refrigerant
• Coefficient of Performance (COP): 4.3 for 205L, 4.2 for 280L
• Operating range: range from -5°C to +42°C.
• PV integration

• Quiet operation: 46 dB(A)
• Manage and monitor with smartphone app.

NOTE: On October 31 2025, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) published a recall notice on its ProductSafety web site concerning two Chromagen Ariston all-in-one models; the Primos 205L and 280L, sold between 12 June 2024 and 22 September 2025. At the time of updating this page, Ariston products were no longer listed in the heat pump section of Chromagen's web site. Further information on the recall here.
