Tim's Rinnai Hot Water Heat Pumps Review & Verdict
Tim Johnston covers hot water heat pumps and air conditioning for SolarQuotes.
The Rinnai Enviroflo is one of very few heat pump hot water systems still manufactured in Australia, built on Rinnai's 50+ year local heritage in hot water - but that local manufacturing and brand pedigree comes at a price premium over more established heat pump specialists, and Rinnai's heat-pump-specific track record is shorter than other brands.
Rinnai Hot Water Heat Pumps: Pros & Cons
- Manufactured in Australia - one of the few heat pumps built locally
- Backed by Rinnai's 50+ years in the Australian hot water market and a national support network
- Uses R290 (propane) refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential of just 3
- Strong cylinder warranty: 7 years on the tank (parts), plus 5 years parts and labour on refrigeration components.
- Rinnai's heat-pump-specific track record is shorter than dedicated heat pump specialists
- Independent customer review volume is limited
- Buyers who don't specifically value Australian manufacture may find better value elsewhere
About Rinnai
As a company who fits a wide range of heat pump brands across Melbourne, my take on the Enviroflo is that it's a solid, well-supported unit - but its main selling point is Australian manufacturing rather than outright performance or value. It's built at Rinnai's plant in Braeside in Victoria (which I have toured), backed by a national service network. Where it's harder to justify on price alone is against dedicated heat pump specialists like Aquatech, iStore and Apricus, which typically install for at a much cheaper price and have a longer specific track record in heat pumps. If Australian-made matters to you - and in Victoria it's worth an extra $400 rebate - the Enviroflo is a sound choice. If price and heat-pump pedigree matter more, it's worth comparing quotes before committing.
