Exemplary off-grid install - substantailly sized.
Having decided on a Victron & Fronius system, I asked the Victron wholesaler who out here knew their products well. They recommended Trent at A1 Solar. At $56k for a 27 kW system with multiple MPPTs, 4 inverters, system controller, and a level 2 EV charger, plus additional wiring, price was what I expected. It also included installation of the 46 kWh battery I supplied. He and his team put up the 65 panels with bird exclusion mesh, MPPTs, and 4 inverters in a couple of days, and the inverters & system controller were configured to my needs. The whole crew was personable, friendly, efficient, and responsive to my requirements. It's now running flawlessly after 20 months, delivering 57 kWh yesterday, into BEV and domestic loads - entirely off-grid rooftop photons. The Victron local monitoring is nifty, the website account much more detailed, with historical logging.
The 100% fossil-free photon-propelled rural motoring (third photo) is a dream, with the array being ample, even in winter.

Power to the people. Well, us, anyway.
Summary: a great team, diplomatic negotiators, uber-professional from quote to installation.Once upon a time, in a land about as far south as you can go on the big island, we got three quotes from SolarQuotes. The businesses who responded were punctual, professional, and good with the follow-up, but they were all massive enterprises. I didn't want to fork out for their TV advertising budget, nor did I want to be 'sold' a system based on their needs rather than my own. It was the sparky who installed our heat pump HWS who hooked us up with A1 Solar and Electrical Gippsland. (The HWS is another great story of modern triumph over ancient technology!)
From the outset, the service was so much more personal and flexible than the big-name installers. Their prices were competitive and we tweaked the system to hit our sweet spot between affordability and build quality (Longhi panels and Fronius inverter).
We settled on a quote in mid-August. Unfortunately, choosing a reputable small business doesn't insulate you from the corporate indolence of the distributor. Our system couldn't be accepted without their engineers doing a 'manual inspection' of our local grid. So we pay the fee for the manual inspection and the receipt comes back saying it might take a staggering 65 days to get that box ticked. It took 99 days from receipt to authorisation, the last twenty of which A1 Gippsland sent them dripping-tap daily needling with escalating font size and eventually the use of ALL CAPS. Tamara and Liz at A1 kept me in the loop. The distributor holds all the power (so to speak) and they did eventually tick the box.
Trent and the install team were on site the following week, done and dusted by 1pm, including removing an existing 1.5kW system built in the early noughties. I thought the quote included the removal of the old system but the final invoice included it as an extra charge of $500. Following the email trail, I found where I'd mentioned the old system and its removal. It definitely wasn't included in their original quote, either, I just hadn't noticed. We agreed to split the difference and I paid $250 on top of the quoted price for the removal.
It was another week before the system had its electrical inspection (thanks, Jock) and was commissioned. Take out the box-ticking with the distributor (which in other reviews on SolarQuotes has been automated and easy) and the team at A1 Solar and Electrical Gippsland took three weeks from quote to install. They were professional and amicable throughout and we got exactly what we paid for.

On the day of the install the system was installed professionally by a full team of staff. They made a point to discuss multiple aspects of the installation during the day to make sure everything was exactly as we would like, from the exact placement of inverter to the options available for the switch board upgrade. With the completed install looking clean and professional and all within the same day.
I will now be watching the monitoring portal every day while I decide what I can do with all of our additional power.

Very satisfied with the group and the outcome
Trent is very knowledgeable and experienced, been qualified for a long time and the whole team was very helpful, including making great effort to finish installation so it was operable before a 3 day weekend. My Sigenergy 10kw x 13.2kw x 27kwh system is functioning better than I expected. Over the years, I never found another Solar Company that made me feel I was onto the right solution or didn't find it too difficult beyond the panels on the roof projects they had pouring through the door, most got put off by my desire to have everything installed in/on a shed 75m from the house or put up difficulties with that and quoted accordingly, but A1 did the trenching, the wiring, and the whole project and was happy to be hit with questions along the way. Can only thoroughly recommend. I placed this review on Google and felt personally compelled to repeat it here for people in Gippsland.Panel rating: 5/5
