Best installer, great solar system.
Johan runs his business in the Bungendore-Queanbeyan-Canberra region. Out of four quotes, he was one of only two who physically came to my property to talk things over and answer ALL my questions, plus adding information about my options so I could make a more informed decision. The others just wanted me to believe how great they were and get the quote to me. He has an extremely professional manner, being clear, transparent and responsive to my emails with extra questions. The installation went smoothly, he organised my transition to a smart meter and I did not have to organise anything more once he was contracted. He even moved my TV aerial for me as it was going to allow another panel. I ended up with a 9.5 kW SolarEdge system in April 2023 which fills my north-facing roof. 17 months later it has been flawless. I also bought a SE car charger which was brand new on the market at the time. A few grumbles with SE about that but it has been sorted now and I have not had to think, wonder or worry about my system's performance since. It's comforting, nevertheless, to know that Johan monitors all his installations DAILY. I'm so surprised Johan isn't on SolarQuotes. After getting my 3 quotes from SolarQuotes and still sighing, I searched in my local community's Facebook page and found recommendations for Photonic. Haven't looked back.Panel rating: 5/5

I couldn't be happier!
I did what a lot of people do when they're interested in getting a solar system. I went to solarquotes and read through it all. The single concept that I could readily identify with was "Put as many solar panels on your roof as you can." So that's what I decided to do. I started getting quotes from the recommended installers and I talked about getting a solar system with a heap of different people.Two of them instantly said "You need to get Johan to do it!" This struck me as a bit unusual. I had not heard of him before. So I emailed Photonic Solar for a quote and waited for a magical quote sheet to appear. This seemed to be the way these days.
However, what I got was a return email asking for a site visit.
What? Someone wants to actually turn up and look at the situation? I was immediately somewhat impressed and locked in the next available time. Then I did some googling. I found the Photonic Solar business facebook page and spent some time looking at the photos of installations done by Johan and his apprentices.
When I was a kid, I thought I might become an electrician, but I ended up in I.T after a stint as an aircraft technician. So let me state that I like looking at quality workmanship because it's not very common. Photonic Solar appeared to have been involved in solar installations both big and small. Everything looked like it had been done by a perfectionist.
Over the years, I have discovered that anyone who spends the time making things look good has also cared enough to make sure it all works.
A few days later, Johan arrived to take a look at my roof. After a quick inspection, it appeared that there would be no significant challenges and then we discovered that we have a heap of common interests.
This is never a good thing when two people both have other work to do.
At the time, I had quotes from five different installation companies with various battery options and sizes. Nobody had entertained my request for as many panels as possible.
Just on a week later, I got emailed two proposals from Johan, both with options to go bigger. They looked good, but there's still plenty of roof space. I also had a reasonable sized shed roof available so I inquired if we could get 19,110 watts of panel on my roof. I really wanted 20kW of panels, but if that's as good as I can get, I could live with it.
A few days later, I got an updated quote and it was as close as I thought I'd get to my dream of somewhat ludicrous amounts of solar power. Johan had already explained that he's working flat out as the battery subsidy deadline was coming and I had long accepted that I was not going to make it, so I was just going to wait my turn.
However, I'm going to get the person I want, to install the solar system I want. I've waited a very long time for this to happen so I paid the deposit to lock in my install.
Johan had also informed me that there was a shortage of 490 watt panels and everyone in Australia is trying to get their systems installed before the battery subsidy drops to the less sweet deal. We may have to go with lower wattage panels.
I elected to see what is available when the time comes to pick up my panels from his supplier.
We then waited for a few months and then got a message that depending on the weather, we'd be looking at early to mid August.
And then all of a sudden, we've got an install date, but it will be done in two parts either side of the weekend. I waited on Friday for a few minutes discussion on last details. Johan then informed me that he had managed to get 495 watt panels. I almost cried, but kept it inside. I came home from work to see heaps of solar panels on the roof. This was the point at which I started thinking about the question of "Should we leave room to put more batteries on the stack?" as I had elected to go with a SigEnergy system.
On Saturday morning, I sent Johan an email about throwing more money at batteries. Eleven minutes later I had an email back saying he had three in stock that he could bring on Monday.
This is how epic decisions are made. When I got home after work on Monday, I had a 19.8kW solar system with 48kWh of battery. The next day delivered some very quick icing on the cake when we discovered that there had been a suburb wide power outage that nobody in my house had noticed.
It has provided nothing but results that it is an outstanding system and that I made the right decisions. I have seen one single screw that was installed not quite perfectly square, but everything else looks like actual professional tradespeople installed it.
Johan was an absolute pleasure to deal with and the only thing I wish I'd done differently was not wait so long to get this all installed.
I am now the third person that I know of who will recommend him for any type of solar installation. There will be a heap of other people who know what kind of work he does and it is disappointing that they haven't also added their voices in an industry that is a little bit known for some sketchy operators.
