Finn's Sigenergy EV Chargers Review & Verdict

Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO

New to the Australian market, Sigenergy's EV chargers have made a good impression on local installers and I'm happy to recommend them.

In the SolarQuotes  2025 Installers' Choice EV Charger Awards, Sigenergy took 3rd place.

The standard AC EV charger (7kW on single phase) works well, with OCPP as standard and dynamic load management as an optional extra.

Their DC charger is a crazy 25 kW (see our video on this here), but at $8,000 is only for those who really need blazing fast charging at home and already have a Sigenergy stackable inverter.

Sigenergy EV Chargers: Pros & Cons

  • Solar smart charging.
  • Reasonably priced for the quality and feature set.
  • More protection features than you can poke a stick at.
  • A DC 25kW option (module must be used with Sigenstor battery) that is bidirectional ready.
  • AC charger needs to be used with Sigenstor battery system for some advanced features.
  • Relatively new to the market.

Company Information

Sigenergy was founded by Tony Xu, who was previously Huawei's solar division president. While Sigenergy is a young company, it has grown very rapidly and caught the (positive) attention of many in the industry.

The firm already has 600+ employees and boasts a 20,000 sqm manufacturing facility in Lin-gan New Area in Shanghai. Its 8,000+ sqm global headquarters and research and development facility alone has 500 employees, with 70% of those being R&D engineers.

Sigenergy EV Chargers In Australia

The company's EV charger range has two core products: the conventional Sigen EV AC charger and the SigenStor EV DC charging module.

Sigen EV AC Charger

Available in 7kW (single-phase), 11 and 22kW (three-phase) variants; the wall-mounted Sigen EV AC charger offers several modes: 100% PV charging, solar boost charging and "fast" charging - but these functions require use of the charger with a SigenStor home battery

It has dynamic load management to prevent overload (needs to be used with Sigen Power Sensor), plus other protection features including:

  • Over / under voltage
  • Over temperature
  • Protective earth and neutral (PEN)
  • Randomised charging delay
  • Ground fault
  • Surge
  • Integrated residual current failure protection

The Sigen EV AC charger is available tethered or untethered, measures 234 x 384 x 126 mm and weighs either 4.5kg or 6.5kg depending on the case. Its operating temperature range is -30C ~ 55C, and with an IP65 protection rating it can be installed outside.

Monitoring, controlling and scheduling of charging sessions is carried out with the mySigen App, which also features charging history and provides insights along potential optimisation options. There's also an LED indicator on the unit indicating status.

SigenStor EV DC Charging Module

Installed as part of the SigenStor all-in-one battery system, this charger is available in 12.5kW and 25kW variants. It's integrated into the all-in-one system by adding a module to the battery stack. You can watch (and read) about a SigenStor EV DC charging module installation here.

This module is notable because it provides true home DC charging, bypassing your EV's onboard AC>DC charger limits to provide nameplate speed. For example, if you have a BYD Atto 3 that can only charge at 7kW AC, this module can more than triple speeds.

It's also a lot more expensive than a conventional charger, topping out at $8,600 for the 25kW unit compared to ~$1,200 for their AC product.  But when you factor in it's also bidirectional ready and other bidirectional chargers cost around $10,000 at the moment, it works out to be comparatively great value for money.

More specifications for both AC and DC products can be viewed on SolarQuotes' EV charger comparison table

Warranty Details

Sigenergy warrants that the Sigen EV AC charger's electronics and enclosure will be free of defects caused by improper workmanship or defective materials for three years. The EV DC Charging Module warranty is also three years, except for "vulnerable" parts such as strip lights in the decorative cover, which is 2 years.

The 25kW EV charger is a fantastic addition to the system. It provides fast and reliable charging for my electric vehicle, and the integration with the solar and battery system ensures that I can charge using clean, self-generated energy.

The system itself has been performing exceptionally well. The estimated annual production of 39,796 kWh seems accurate based on the initial performance data. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the quality of the installation, the professionalism of the team, and the performance of the REC panels, Sigenergy SigenStor inverter, and battery system. I would highly recommend Solar4Life to anyone considering a solar installation.

Controllable by energy source (solar/battery/grid); time of day, and; speed. So pretty funky.

It's so nice to be able to charge up the car in a couple of hours, rather than overnight with the supplied BYD Granny Charger.

It is the fastest home DC home charger in Australia.

The EV charger is great and everything is simple to use.

Works as expected. Wish it came in different colours to match the walls they are installed on. App works well to start/stop, set up schedules, monitor etc. I like that we can choose how to we charge - fast from the grid, solar only, battery, etc.
