With solar panels being so cheap now – they’ve reduced in price by 95% over the last 10 years – it usually makes sense to simply fill your roof with solar where possible.

It is not perfect, and the IT guys are still working out the bugs, but this is a great starting point when calculating the potential payback for solar on your home.

The first step in calculating the return of your solar is knowing your system size.

To calculate your system size, take note of how many panels you put onto your roof. Then, multiply it by your panels size.

Now that you know your system size, enter it in our solar calculator. It will assume a reasonable price for this system size, but you can always update it with quotes you may have already gotten for a system. Enter your postcode and your electricity rates, and you can see how quickly that system would pay itself off:
