Company Info

Apricus has been in the hot water game since 2005. Beginning as a small operation in Sydney, New South Wales, the company started out with evacuated tube solar thermal systems and expanded into heat pump hot water systems in 2022.

Today, the firm claims a distribution network of more than 1,500 resellers and more than 150 customer care and service agents nationally.

While Apricus makes all its evacuated tube products locally, it's not clear where its heat pumps are manufactured. However, the firm is the sister company of another manufacturer, Reclaim, whose tanks are manufactured in Australia and the heat pump component in Japan.

Apricus APHP-R290-260 All-In-One Heat Pump

The APHP-R290-260 has a 260 litre tank and uses a low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant - R290 (propane).

This hot water heat pump has an ambient operational temperature of -7~+43°C. At 43 dB, it's not the quietest heat pump available, but not the noisiest either. It has a 1.8kW element for backup and boosting, and a Coefficient of Performance of 4.13. Its dimensions are 1800 x 620mm and has a net weight of 118 kilograms.

The APHP-R290-260 offers 4 modes: Auto, Eco (default), Boost and Ele (electric element only). Solar PV can be integrated using the in-built timer features.

The heat pump comes with an app that provides operational data monitoring, including tank temperature and total power usage. It can also be used to adjust operational mode and set the unit on a timer, plus provides easier fault finding and troubleshooting using historical data. There's also a smart touch screen controller on the unit for some functions.

2025 Apricus Heat Pump Recall

In April 2025, Apricus commenced a recall of APHP-R290-260 units manufactured in November 2024 and sold/installed between December 2024 and March 2025.

The recall concerns a specific manufacturing batch with a flaw that has led to units falling over when the tank experiences high internal pressure. Further detail can be found here.

Warranty Details

The APHP-R290-260 is now supplied with a six-year warranty, covering parts and labour. Previously, labour was only covered for the first year after installation — so this is quite an improvement. However the warranty ends after 3 years if the sacrificial anode in the tank isn't checked and replaced if required.
