Which electricity network are you connected to?

New South Wales has three main electricity distributors. Your DNSP sets the connection and export rules for your solar and battery system.

  • Ausgrid – parts of Sydney, the Central Coast and the Hunter.
  • Endeavour Energy – Sydney’s Greater West, the Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands, Illawarra and South Coast.
  • Essential Energy – most regional and rural NSW outside the Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy areas.

Your installer should confirm your DNSP and approved export limit before finalising the system design.

Solar and battery rebates in New South Wales

The NSW Government currently offers the following solar and battery incentives:

  • Home Energy Saver Program – interest-free loans of up to $15,000 can be used for solar and batteries. The program will also offer a subsidy up to $4,000 to property owners. Both loans and subsidy will be means-tested.
  • VPP incentive – households joining an eligible virtual power plant can receive an incentive of up to around $1,000.

Grid connection rules in New South Wales

Your electricity distributor sets the limits on your solar and battery system’s inverter capacity and how much power you can export to the grid. Flexible exports are being introduced across NSW, allowing higher exports when the network has capacity. Your installer should confirm the options available at your address before finalising the design.
