Which electricity network are you connected to?

Victoria has five electricity distributors, so connection rules depend heavily on where you live:

  • CitiPower – Melbourne CBD and nearby inner-city areas.
  • Powercor – western Victoria, including Melbourne’s outer western suburbs.
  • Jemena – western and northern inner Melbourne.
  • AusNet – eastern Victoria.
  • United Energy – south-east Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula.

Your installer should confirm the distributor for your address before designing the system, particularly where flexible or zero-export connection offers apply.

Solar and battery rebates in Victoria

The Victorian Government currently offers the following solar incentive:

  • Solar panel rebate – eligible households can receive up to $1,400 towards a rooftop solar system, with an interest-free loan option also available for solar.

Victoria’s former interest-free battery loan program has ended.

Grid connection rules in Victoria

Your electricity distributor sets the inverter and export limits for your solar and battery system. Some properties with low or zero fixed export limits may qualify for flexible exports. New and upgraded solar systems also generally need a reliable internet connection to meet Victoria’s emergency backstop requirements, otherwise exports may be restricted.
