Harvey Norman turns to solar power

21st Jun 2012

When a well-known retail chain decides to do something monumental in the name of the environment, we pretty much all sit up and take notice.

Whether it's Walmart installing solar panels in Colorado, or Apple going one better and erecting a solar plant, we still can't help but be impressed at their efforts to become energy efficient.

This time it's the turn of Harvey Norman – a name that many of you are sure to be familiar with.

The company has announced that it has purchased 5MW of solar panels from the US, which look set to be installed later this year.

Westinghouse Solar, a designer and manufacturer of rooftop solar power systems and CBD Energy, a renewable energy company, are responsible for creating the technology.

Of course, the solar panels will have to be subject to all sorts of regulations before they make it over to Australian shores – the certification process alone is expected to take around three months to complete.

Still, this marks a positive step forward for Australian solar…the question is, who will be the next company to succumb to the power of solar?
