Michael's BLD Solar Panels Review & Verdict
Michael Bloch covers the latest developments in home electrification for SolarQuotes.
During the 2010's in Australia, it seemed every Chinese solar panel manufacturer was exporting modules here — and many of these companies didn't see the distance. Zhejiang BLD Solar was one of them.
BLD Solar Panels: Pros & Cons
- Company is kaput.
About BLD Solar
Zhejiang BLD Solar was a Chinese manufacturer of solar wafers, cells, panels and inverters that is no longer operating.
Company Info
BLD Solar was established in June 2008; starting off with an annual panel production capacity of 50MW. By 2014, its capacity had expanded to 300MW and the firm had plans to boost that to 500MW. Its manufacturing plant was located in Anji, Zhejiang province, which is in the eastern region of the country. We state "was" as the company went kaput in 2018.
BLD Solar Panels In Australia
Before it went belly-up, BLD manufactured polycrystalline and monocrystalline panels in the 120W - 350W range. There was nothing particularly special about BLD modules in terms of materials, efficiency or temperature coefficient of Pmax.
Some of the company's solar panels were Clean Energy Council approved for use in Australia in the 2010's, but the CEC announced in 2018 its panels had been removed from the CEC's Approved Products List. This was because the CEC was advised the company has ceased trading. But there were other issues indicating that even if the company had continued, it would have troubles getting its panels listed again.
Warranty Details
BLD solar panels were covered by a 12 year product warranty and a 25 year linear performance warranty promising no less than 80% of nameplate output in year 25. This means there may be panels from this manufacturer still covered by warranty in Australia.
But with the company gone, who can you turn to? The first contact should be with your installer, as they have warranty responsibility. If you're unable to contact that party for whatever reason, at the time that the CEC announced delisting, it noted local company Alliance Solar was listed as the importer of Zhejiang BLD panels. Authorised module importers are also responsible for meeting manufacturer warranty obligations in Australia.
