Enphase Energy EV chargers review

While available in overseas markets for a while, Enphase hasn't had an EV charger available in Australia. That's about to change — hopefully by the end of June 2025.

Company Info

Founded in 2006, Enphase Energy is best known for its microinverters and remains the world leader for microinverter tech. The firm also manufactures battery systems and more recently expanded into home EV chargers.

The company's first device — the IQ EV Charger — was launched in 2023. This model never made it to Australian shores for whatever reason - but the next generation device unveiled in March 2025 will.

IQ EV Charger 2

The IQ EV Charger 2 is smart charging solution offering OCPP 2.0.1 support  that Enphase says integrates seamlessly with the Enphase Energy System, or any other home energy system through the IQ gateway.

Providing charging speeds up to 22 kW on three-phase and 7.4 kW on single-phase, the device offers seamless phase-switching.  As for solar compatibility, it can initiate solar charging even in low light conditions - 1.4kW depending on site configuration. It will check for surplus solar every 30 seconds and regulate charging current in 1 A increments. In addition to a standard and solar charging mode, the IQ EV Charger can be set to time-of-use-based operation.

We're told the IQ EV Charger 2 is V2X capable, but is software-locked for now. It remains to be seen when that feature will be available, and if there will be an additional cost.

The IQ EV Charger 2's dynamic load balancing features monitors solar production and home consumption, enabling the device to dynamically adjust charging power so it doesn't trip your switchboard.

Its IP55-rated enclosure allows for installation either outdoors or indoors, and operation in direct sunlight. On that note, the operating temperature range is -40°C to 55°C, and Enphase says it has been tested to survive 96 hours of salt spray without any corrosion.

Enphase states the IQ EV Charger 2 takes less than 10 minutes to install (getting the wiring to it is another matter of course), and commissioning takes less than 3 minutes via the Enphase Installer App. Speaking of apps, the Enphase App provides the owner with monitoring and control functions.

The device measures 370 mm × 250 mm × 118 mm and weighs 11kg including the 7.5m tethered charging cable that comes with it, along with a cable and connector holster.

The price we've seen on the company's web site is $2,048; and as mentioned, it's not clear if unlocking its V2X capabilities will incur an extra cost, when that might happen, and what those capabilities will be.

Warranty Details

Enphase offers a warranty of 5 years on the IQ EV Charger 2.

Being such a new product, we're particularly keen to see Australian owners of the IQ EV Charger 2 leave reviews and ratings on its performance once they've had time to fiddle with it. And to help determine if this device may be right for you, check out our home EV charger guide.
