Finn's iStore EV Chargers Review & Verdict

Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO

Australia's iStore added EV chargers to its stable (garage?) in late 2024. I've been impressed with other iStore gear such as their batteries and inverters, and I'm comfortable also recommending the company's electric vehicle charging devices.

iStore EV Chargers: Pros & Cons

  • Australian company (but made in China)
  • Solar-friendly
  • 7 metre charging cable
  • Only tethered chargers are available

About iStore

iStore is an Australian firm that started out many years ago selling heat pump hot water systems before moving into solar inverters and batteries in 2023. In late 2024, iStore added EV chargers to its portfolio.

Company Info

iStore has been involved in the solar and water heating industries for 25 years. A family-run company, iStore aims to help Australians achieve full home electrification. It offers solutions for heating, cooling, energy storage and now, electric vehicle charging.

iStore isn't a manufacturer and while its inverters and battery systems are produced by Huawei under an OEM agreement with the firm for the Australian/New Zealand markets, it's not clear who manufactures iStore EV chargers (or where). Chances are they are made in China, and there's nothing wrong with that per se as some very good gear is produced there.

More On iStore's EV Chargers

Available in single-phase (7kW - IS-EVC-7400-1PH) and three-phase (22kW - IS-EVC-22000-3PH), the iStore EV charger lists among its features:

  • Dynamic load balancing
  • PEN fault detection - disconnects all poles in the event of a network fault
  • Emergency shutoff switch
  • Over-temperature sensors
  • Seamless integration with a home solar system
  • Scheduled charging

Both chargers come with a tethered (permanently connected) 7 metre cable and a user-friendly app that provides intuitive control.

Warranty Information

The IS-EVC-7400-1PH and IS-EVC-22000-3PH are accompanied by a 3 year warranty. The warranty in the user manual states maintenance must be performed within the specified time by professionals with accredited safety maintenance tools, without specifying what the maintenance schedule is.
