Finn's Aquatech Solar Technologies Hot Water Heat Pumps Review & Verdict

Offering good quality products at competitive prices, there's a lot to like about Aquatech Solar Technologies' heat pump hot water systems (aside from the short labour warranty). Feedback we've had from installers has generally been positive, as have reviews we've seen from Australians who own one of these systems.

Aquatech Solar Technologies Hot Water Heat Pumps: Pros & Cons

  • Affordable, but good quality.
  • Comparatively quiet.
  • Solar friendly.
  • Eligible for Federal and some state incentives
  • While the parts warranty is 5 years, the labour warranty is only two years.

Company Information

The company doesn't reveal much about itself or the firm's history on its website, but another heat pump brand in its stable is Hydrotherm. While not mentioned anywhere on Aquatech's web site that we could find, their systems are manufactured in China.

Aquatech Heat Pump Systems

Aquatech offers all-in-one heat pump hot water systems, meaning the tank and pump are combined in a single unit. Aquatech systems are among the quieter models we have listed on the SolarQuotes heat pump comparison table (but not the quietest).

All its systems are accompanied smart-home app, which can be used to monitor and control operations.

RAPID/X6

The RAPID/X6 boasts a 250L storage tank and is rated large load capable to Australian Standard AS/NZS 4234. Aquatech says it offers enough hot water capacity for a six-person home; but of course that depends on if you have teenagers!

Even if you use all the available hot water, the RAPID/X6 can bring a full tank back to temperature in under three hours, assuming a mild day; plus it has a backup element for boosting or for when conditions are really unfavourable. Its annual Coefficient Of Performance (COP) rating is 4.15.

The RAPID/X6 offers multiple heating modes, integrated timers to optimise electricity tariffs or for use with your solar power system, and wifi connectivity for monitoring.

Aquatech claims the RAPID/X6 has twice the industry standard for thickness and coatings for the tank, a galvanised casing, a 900W Toshiba compressor, microchannel heat exchangers and electronic expansion valves.

Its dimensions are 1580mm x 620mm and it weighs 105 kilograms empty. The RAPID/X6 uses R290 refrigerant (propane), which has low global warming potential but is highly flammable.

While the RAPID/X6 runs on a standard 10 Amp circuit and can be plugged into an outdoor power point; some jurisdictions require hard-wiring.

DYNAMIC/X8

The DYNAMIC/X8 has a 268 litre tank and is touted as the "perfect partner" for solar power systems as the heating cycle can be adjusted to once per day during the times of the highest solar output; usually 10am to 4pm.

Also rated large load capable, recovery back to temperature when all the hot water is used can be achieved in under three and half hours on a mild day. Like the X6, it uses R290 refrigerant (propane), has a heavy duty tank, galvanised casing and a Toshiba compressor; with a backup element (1800W) ensuring continuous supply of hot water. It has an annual COP rating of 4.20.

The X8 is slightly taller than the X6 with a height of 1810mm, and a diameter of 620mm. The X8 weighs 118 kg.

Upcoming Releases

Also in the pipeline (so to speak) are a couple of new models to be launched in 2025. One is the BOOST/X4 which has a 165L storage tank and a boost mode for dual heating. With a 500mm diameter, it will be Aquatech's "slimmest" heat pump. The other is the VOLT/X6, which has a 375L storage tank. While classified as a light commercial heat pump, it's also suitable for large households.

Warranty Details

Both the X6 and X8 are backed by a 5-year replacement warranty, which covers all components, including the tank and compressor. However, labour charges are only covered for 2 years.

Looks great and not out of place

Early days but it appears better built and needs to run less than the previous system.

The Aquatech Dynamic X8 unit itself seems very flexible with the different timer options to take take advantage of solar power and off peak electricity rates which I really like. I was also surprised at how quite the unit is. The wifi connected unit also allows me to see what the water temperature is from my phone, which enabled me to easily tweak the timers to minimise heating cost but provide sufficient hot water when we need it

It's early but working well so far once getting the tempering valve set

Previously reviewed, very happy with performance.

Had system installed 2.5 years does a great job at heating water, app is not easy to understand. Better instructions in manual would be helpful, had good help from aquateh setting WiFi. I'm using solar panels to run unit. I should recover installation cost very soon , I have no gas at home this alone saves $250 per year just on service charges. I now have installed a home battery my electrify cost are almost zero for the last 18 months. Did not come with long drain hose, not good
I have chosen this model due to its low noise levels and contained cost. It did not diasappoint: it is very silent and barely noticeable when on. It recharges in less than 1h with solar power. Installation was straightforward in 2 h. I am very happy with its performance and its warranty which I got extended to 7years with a Product Review post.
DYNAMIC/X8
Simply excellent in all aspects - quieter than we expected and similar to air conditioning noise levels. Excellent installation by Greenlogic who also supported us with solar and batteries.
Recharges in 2 hours in spring summer
LED controls easy to use, and only ever used on solar so no power charges
All good, but the App to operate it proved difficult to get working
I had an Aquatech Rapid X6 installed in December 2025. Very happy with the hot water and the noise level of the unit. Whilst I can hear it when operating in the closest bedroom, I have no issue with this. Great addition to go with my solar electricity.
The setting of temperatures and timing are poorly designed and non intuitive, nothing the supplier can do about that the manufacturer needs to remember that the “average joe/joan” doesn’t interact with this stuff every day, otherwise the recommended supplier provided excellent backup and the installation was very neat and timely.

Affordable. Very cheap to run. Acceptably quiet. Easily monitored and controlled with a phone app.
Installed Fusion X8 but so far hasn't been able to get it to talk to WIFI
Easily programmable and quiet operation
