A good battery but installation had some problems.
I already had a small solar system from many years ago, so only figured that I needed a battery to store some daytime excess generation and top up with free midday power from the grid to get me over the expensive evening peak.I sought several quotes and settled on the proposal from Bright Future Energy for a GoodWe ESA 15kW 3-phase inverter with 24kWh of batteries, as they were happy to include disconnection of my existing solar inverter, DC coupling of the solar panels to the new inverter, installation in the garage and full home backup at a competitive price. What's more, they advertise a fully in-house team and are locally based. The sales process was very responsive and confidence-inspiring.
Installation took place on the scheduled day and the system was basically functional but not fully completed. I enquired about the lack of a changeover (bypass) switch, despite the switch being included by the manufacturer in the box with the inverter. The installer said that he had installed many battery systems but had never installed a changeover switch! My reference to the SolarQuotes article "Why hybrid solar needs a bypass switch" didn't impress him.
I eventually phoned the office and spoke to the boss who told me that these switches are only needed in Victoria, not in New South Wales! It was a struggle, but they eventually agreed to install the changeover switch, as well as the wall support brackets ("nobody installs those") that were also included in the box and shown in the install manuals.
A problem with phase B current transformer took a while to track down and was eventually resolved with valuable assistance from a helpful GoodWe technical support person who turned up unexpectedly and repaired a bad connection. He also advised the correct wiring of the changeover switch so that power was actually off with the switch in the off position. By this time in the process, an additional box had appeared on the wall just to house the additional connections required by wiring changes.
All up, the install took 6 visits over a period of 5 weeks and 1 day.
The system is running well and hasn't missed a beat. My lights are on, EVs are charged and my power bills are negative.
So the outcome is good.
