Finn's TW Solar Panels Review & Verdict
Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO
TW Solar panels are manufactured by China's Tongwei Solar. It's a huge company that produces what appear to be decent panels, priced more towards the budget end of the spectrum. Tongwei now has an office in Sydney and they're among the list of brands we recommend.
TW Solar Panels: Pros & Cons
- Priced for the budget-conscious
About TW Solar
China's TW Solar, or Tongwei Solar, is one of the largest solar manufacturers in the world. The company began producing animal feed back in 1983 and began producing solar cells around 2009. By 2013 they were producing them on a large scale. While they first concentrated on producing cells for other companies to use, they have moved into producing their own panels in a big way, becoming a vertically integrated company in charge of all major steps required to manufacture solar panels.
Their Australian office was opened in 2025 and they were sold and installed here for for several years before this, giving them a reasonable Australian track record.

Company Info
Tongwei produces polysilicon, cells and solar panels. It supplies cells to many of the world's leading panel manufacturers.
As of September 2024, the firm had an annual polysilicon production capacity of 650,000 tons, annual solar cell production capacity of more than 95GW, and an annual module production capacity of 75GW. In mid-2022, the company claimed it was the first manufacturer in the industry to complete 100 GW of solar cell shipments. Tongwei is also a major employer, boasting more than 60,000 employees worldwide.
TW Solar's products are manufactured at a number of facilities in China. One is in Hefei, Anhui province; which has been in operation since late 2013. There are another two in in Chengdu, Sichuan province, and also a factory in Meishan, Sichuan province.
In an example of "co-opetition", TW Solar also teamed up with another Chinese PV manufacturing heavyweight, Trina Solar, on the Tonghe New Energy project. This project involves polysilicon production with an annual output of 40,000 tons, ingot production of 15GW each year, a wafer cutting project (15GW annually), and a solar cell project with an annual output of 15GW.
Residential TW Solar Panels
While its primary focus is on solar cell production, Tongwei also produces solar panels for residential, commercial and utility-scale applications. TW Solar panels available and approved for use in Australia are listed on the Clean Energy Council's approved solar module list under the company name of "Tongwei Co Ltd".
While Tongwei Solar produces a large range of solar panel models, you can expect those sold for residential use in Australia to have these characteristics:
- Panel efficiency of around 22% or higher
- Temperature coefficient of PMAX (heat resistance) of -0.28%
- A product warranty of 25 years
- A 30 year performance warranty allowing 1% loss of output in the first year and 0.4% in subsequent years
These characteristics are similar to those of other decent quality, lower cost panels on the market. Provided the TW panel you're offered has a product warranty of 25 years, its other features are likely to be up-to-date.
Tongwei Solar produces bifacial panels with glass sheets covering the top and bottom of the panel. This allows them to use light hitting either side. While there's no real advantage from installing bifacial panels on a roof, there's no disadvantage.
Tongwei Solar also produces all black panels for those who prefer the way they look.
If you've had TW Solar panels installed on your rooftop, let us know your opinion of them by leaving a review.
