| Decision was based on a balance of price, quality of panels/inverter and a review of firms that quoted for us (3 formal + 2 verbal).
Checking the ASIC website for background on the companies that quoted showed that the 25-year warranty is a bit of a joke. The chance of any firm being around that long is highly doubtful. |

As with so many purchases, the sales hype did not match reality. Our decision to go with our chosen supplier was based on price and on proven panels and inverter. We were interested in some newly released Australian panels, but could not be convinced that the R&D company that manufactures them would necessarily be around for a protracted period.
Our initial discussions led us to believe that we were able to install a 3kW system across our roof and were advised that a formal design would come before installation. This didn't happen and when the installer arrived, we were told that we would have to reduce the system to 2kW - the terracotta tiles reduced the actual useable space. A proper roof measurement, rather than using 'nearmap', would have solved this before we signed off.
The installer, a firm separate to the one from who we purchased the system, did a great job. |
