Top Quality Work, Top Quality Products, but definitely not the cheap option.
This mob runs a well-oiled machine. Mark, the Sales Manager, attended an on-site visit within a week of our Solar Quotes application. He went to great lengths to make sure he understood what we wanted, what we needed, what options we had, how everything would work, and what we had to be aware of. He really knows his stuff, and he's clearly proud of his team and confident in their ability.The pricing came back dearer than expected, but we were prepared to take the hit. We wanted to be sure we were buying quality equipment installed by a professional team. We also took into account that O'Brien's Underwood isn't a fly-by-night outfit set up to cash in on rebates, and that any future warranty issues would actually be covered. Buy once, cry once - rather than going cheap, cutting corners, and dealing with headaches down the track.
Cara in the Underwood office kept us up to date regarding timing, and the job started on schedule. It was set to be a two-day install, but rain on the second day meant a bit of a wait for a scheduling window to wrap things up. Cara touched base regularly to keep us in the loop throughout.
During the install, Tim (the Certified Electrical Installer) and his crew were friendly, courteous, and highly professional. Tim was happy to walk through the options for cable runs and component placement to keep the installation as discreet as possible. The conduit, cable runs, and panel wiring are exceptionally neat and tidy - a real credit to the crew's trade-craft. They left the site spotless, and we are very happy with the quality of the finish.
Tim got our SigenStor battery bank connected to the network and registered, then walked us through the app to monitor power flow between the panels, battery, and grid. O'Brien's also handled all the backend coordination with Energex and the meter upgrade. Mark has since contacted us to check that everything is working as expected and to offer advice on app settings etc.
It was an expensive exercise, but overall we are very happy with the final result. We’d gladly recommend Mark, Tim, Cara, and the rest of the crew at O'Brien's Underwood to anyone.

Local Company
We went with a local company who also had the lowest quote. They also had the longest warranty on the inverter. Friendly and helpful. They have taken photos of the installation in the roof cavity to supply to us so if there are any issues in the future we have proof of how the installation was done.07 December 2025
Fantastic communication and customer service
Mark and Annie form Hervey Bay were so quick wi the there communication and were so great when I had questions. They were extremely understanding while I was waiting for finance to come through too.

Solid responsive Customer Service + Quality Install
O'Briens Townsville have been reliably helpful, informative, responsive and thorough throughout the quoting and advisory process, as well as the installation, notwithstanding that the last few months have been extremely busy for them (& the industry generally, due to the increased govt support). I did a lot of detailed consideration due to the specifics of my house & roof etc, and waiting for the increased govt support, and Chris & team, were generally responsive, including seeking answers from suppliers etc when requested. This included me upgrading my battery from 2 to 3 modules after initially accepting the quote, which involved challenges for supply at that time of very high demand.They have a very strong warranty on their work (25 years on work, 10 years on components), although given the rapid development of the industry and technology, it's hard to know how realistically useful that will be in 24 years!
They undertook all the grid connection arrangements after the install, gave me instruction on using the interface, provided a line diagram as requested, and stepped me through how the whole thing is connected, what switches control what, etc.
Importantly, their admin staff were reliably helpful and responsive (and polite) throughout the process.
I deliberately "over-purchased", due to SolarQuotes advice plus the current pricing and the prospect of getting an electric vehicle in the future, but this was not due to over-selling by the supplier, Original ratings

10 months later we asked Laurence: "Are you happy with the performance of your system so far?"
The ONLY negative experience I've had was when something went wrong with the inverter early this year. Sigen were already aware of this problem, and had already, pre-emptively & proactively arranged a (nation-wide) recall/replacement for no charge. However, I was away, and the installer agreed that the replacement could almost certainly wait until I got home.Unfortunately, that was not the case, the relevant component burnt out whilst I was not home, AND the Sigen system turned off EVERYTHING, including the GRID. As a result, my home was completely without power for about a week, and it was about 10 days before the solar system was fixed & re-instated. This cost me the contents of my fridge, some significant hassle for neighbour to come & deal with the fridge, the repairs, reset timers for home appliances, etc.
The installers did a good job of getting me back on the grid and then getting the replacement installed as quick as possible, but there were a couple of minor aspects overlooked (my setup is locked, but they neglected to arrange a key for the replacement; the Hot Water System was not reconnected as a Smart Device until I requested).
Nonetheless, both installer and SIgen were very helpful and proactive and pleasant about the issue, which was really not the fault of either the installer or the manufacturer, and overall, I remain glad of my choice of product and installer.
