Finn's Shenzen Sofar Solar Inverters Review & Verdict
Finn Peacock has been a Chartered Electrical Engineer since 1998, and is ex-CSIRO
Among inverter brands at the budget end of the spectrum, I don't recommend Sofar inverters as – in my opinion – there are better solutions available with better support, better apps, and a stronger installer base.
Some installers call them SoF***** inverters (and the word beginning with F is not 'Fantastic').
And a small number of installers seem to really like them.
But I'm not a fan.

Company Info
Established in 2013 (and active in Australia since), Sofar operates worldwide. The company manufactures solar inverters for homes and solar farms, ranging from 1-350kW. Their hybrid inverters range from 3-125kW. As of December 2025, Sofar says they've shipped 37GW of inverter capacity.
Sofar manufacture in Shenzen and Huizhou. The newer Huizhou factory, once complete, is expected to add more than 3 million units to the company's annual manufacturing capacity; including 2 million grid-connected inverters, 600,000 hybrid inverters and 600,000 Sofar batteries.
Sofar Solar Inverters In Australia
The company has had a dizzying array of models approved by the CEC for use in Australia over the years; but we'll just focus on a few current lines.
KTLM-G3 Series
Designed for residential solar, the KTLM-G3 single-phase series has a maximum efficiency up to 98.4%. The KTLM-G3 range in 7 - 10.15kW capacities has dual MPPTs with 150% DC overload capacity. They are also compatible with 500W+ modules; which will become more common in the years ahead.
The KTLM-G3 range has natural (convection) cooling and can operate in ambient temperatures of -30°C to +60°C, with derating above 45°C.
Inverters in KTLM-G3 7, 7.7, 8, 9, 10 and 10.5 kW capacities measure 468 × 380 × 187 mm and weigh 17.5kg - 18.5kg
According to the firm, SOFAR 8-10KTLM-G3 are its best sellers in Australia.
3.3-12 KTLX-G3 Series
3~12KTLX-G3 are three-phase dual MPPT inverters available in capacities of 3 kW to 12 kW. They have a maximum efficiency of 98.5%, "Smart string level monitoring" and use natural (convection) cooling.
Beyond 12 kW, there are KTLX models right up to 50 kW.
Hybrid - HYD KTL-3PH
This range are hybrid three-phase inverters available in 5 - 20 kW capacities. These dual MPPT inverters offer flexible selection and switching of multiple modes, and maximum efficiency of up to 98.2%
There's a UPS function to ensure stable operation of key loads and the AC side supports three-phase unbalanced output.
Hybrid - ESI-5-12K-T1
The ESI-5-12K-T1 are three-phase hybrid inverters available in capacities of 5 kW to 12 kW. These units feature up to 3 MPPTs with AFCI and 20A input current per MPPT, the inverter is fully compatible with the high power solar panels. Its IP66 protection means it can be installed both indoors and outdoors, and it uses natural cooling (convection).
CEC Delistings
It hasn't always been smooth sailing for the company here. The firm ran into some trouble in Australia some years ago when the Clean Energy Council delisted all Sofar inverters in early 2018 from its approved products list after one model failed CEC testing for compliance. Those failures were considered indicative of similar issues in other models.
There was also a related nationwide recall shortly after this event. The issues were rectified with a firmware update and subsequently Sofar inverters were back on the CEC's approved list by around June that year.
Warranty Information
The warranty for both hybrid and standard inverters is 10 years. An extended warranty period can be purchased to 15 or 20 years.
