In early 2022, the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ) became the majority shareholder in GEM Energy, which is now trading as RACQ Solar.
Gem Energy was established in 2013, and combined, the two have a portfolio of more than 10,000 solar and solar battery installations. High profile projects include installations for Australia Zoo, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and Sydney Harbour.

Very happy with the RACQ Solar team
Sales and quotes were clear and helpful.The installation team completed the job with efficiently and great professionalism. They were polite and respectful, and kept me informed with their progress. Nothing was too much trouble. The grid connection etc. was all organised for me before they left. I would have no hesitation recommending them.

Top notch service and much cheaper than other Solar Edge suppliers
I chose RACQ solar to supply & install my solar batteries as they were significantly cheaper in the supply and install of solar edge products as I had an existing solar edge solar system. I found their customer service to be top notch. I queried the quote to upgrade my existing meter box & they acknowledged it was unusual and sourced additional quotes from another installer. The difference - $490 versus $2500. After the battery installation I had a query and they followed up for me with the installer.The installers were efficient, courteous and professional, did a quality job and left the site pristine. The app is easy to use and you can manage your battery settings through the app.
I recommend them 100% in particular Jake the installation manager and Nick who handled the quoting and sign up process.

Easy install managed very professionally
We were looking to take advantage of the battery rebate and reached out to a number of companies including RACQ Solar. RACQ provided a competitive quote with quality components. Every aspect of the install was well planned and communication was fantastic throughout. We have friends who went with cheaper installers and many of the processes that were competed at the outset they are still chasing up with their installers. We did pay our installers for pigeon proofing which RACQ weren’t able to offer as part of their package. I would recommend RACQ Solar to anyone looking for new system.

Easy and Quick Process
RACQ Solar was great to deal with from beginning to end. They really have things streamlined and make it easy and quick for the customer. Different team members jumped in to deal with each stage of the process and everything went smoothly. There were lots of steps but we knew what was happening all the time and communication was great. The team of 3 guys who installed the system turned up on time and did an amazing job. They started early in the morning but still had to deal with really hot conditions. Have a packet of Zooper Doopers on hand for your installers if it's a hot day!!07 February 2026
Best price, professional service, clean and done in less than a day
We're very happy with Javier and Kaitlyn, they have helped with quoting and managing the installation.Our installer Jake was very professional too.
We got a VERY competitive quote. We got more solar panels, a brand new inverter and battery.
Cheapest among multiple different providers in QLD.
They were quite clean too!
We're very very happy. Thank you guys for your professionality, patience and help.
Looking forward to have cheaper electricity bills for long term.

Professionalism from quote to installation
Sales process was quick and all the queries were prompted answered. There was then a site visit where even some conduit was left so I could paint it before to match the house colour. Installation was done by Jake and a very young team but was very professional. Even asking the best suitable time to take power down and the attention to the detail. The place was left clean and some time was spent explaining the system and where to get more information.Battery rating: 5/5

Installation of DC EV charger
The entire process from quotation through to installation was streamline, with the provider communicating any changes. The installer arrived in a timely manner on the day and installation was quick and effective. Installer toke the time to ensure I had correctly downloaded the addition to the controller app and ensured the charger was working correctly charging my car at the optimum speed.Panel rating: 5/5

Good beginning
Comprehensive quote and options were clear. It's not yet installed. I decided not to get a battery but buy a generator, which is a much cheaper option for blackouts.17 December 2025

Great experience
The experience we had with RACQ Solar was great. Through the entire process they were responsive and punctual. They also respected the fact that I can't get to phone calls during the day due to work, and were happy to email rather than play phone tag endlessly.The subcontractor who installed the system did a good job too, although they did mix up their days and came a couple of days early. However, the installation went off without any further issues.
Overall, we were very impressed and very happy.

Happy Customer
Very happy with our recent Solar System (SunPower PV Modules 8.19kW/SunGrow Battery 19.2 kWh) install by RACQ Solar. From the initial Sales contact - very knowledgeable and patient with revising different quote combinations for panels and battery sizes; to the contractors who installed - came for pre-install inspection and offered good advice for install location etc.28 November 2025
Fantastic Buy from RACQ Solar
Had an excellent experience all the way through from my initial consultation with Tane Routledge to my project being managed by Sophie McLennan, who's been super helpful and amazing, even if the installers delayed it slightly. The system was finally installed and commissioned on 17/11/25, and the solar and battery backup had to be put to use so soon, with the recent storms that have hit QLD. I've been recommending both Tane and Sophie from RACQ Solar whenever I've been asked about the system and how easy they've made the process!Panel rating: 5/5

A superlative solar panels, hybrid invertor and battery install
Initial quoting experience through RACQ solar was thorough and unhurried with plenty of conversation time with the representative to supply a system fitting for our needs. Once the prospective install was approved by our energy supplier the install date was set without delay. I was kept updated by RACQ/Gem Energy coordinator at every step, and any queries answered promptly.The install and subsequent grid connection itself went efficiently on time and without a hitch, under a very knowledgeable leader and friendly crew. Definitely five star service. Highly recommended.
Also, and importantly, we can be confident that RACQ/Gem Energy will still be in business into the future!

Best way to avoid electricity bills.
We've just had a Sigenergy house battery installed through RACQ. The process was so easy it's hard to believe. Everything was taken care of. The communication was brilliant and kept us up to date every step of the way. Thanks to Jade, Eva, Mark and Gary from RACQ and a huge shout out to Scott and his crew from ECG Electrical that fitted the battery. A week in and we've not bought any power from the grid.We already had 17kw's of panels but at 3 cents per kwh feed in tariff and now buying during peak time at 40 cents per kwh we were still getting decent sized bills.

Good product and good customer service
I submitted an enquiry through RACQ website and Mat has contacted me in no time. He was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions regarding the design and options for my new solar battery. The quote was straight forward and I had an opportunity to ask more questions as I did my own research on the hardware options. I felt well informed and comfortable when making final decision. Once I signed the contract I was provided with all documentation and options for installation. The installer visited the site prior to inspect and provide final installation quote. During this process my existing 6 years old inverter has been replaced for hybrid. The customer service emailed me all information prior. The installers arrived on time and told me the timelines and what will happen. They were on the site few hours and cleaned after themselves. They answered my questions, set me up on the app and gave a little demo.Battery rating: 5/5

Good system works weel, but be careful of the quoting process.
Being RACQ I expected them to act more ethical compared to all the other 'we're in you area' solar insallers.They give a quote with a good price over the phone and emails without even looking at the property, then they want a 30% deposit up front before they even look at the property.
I managed to get the deposit down to $500.
Then when they come to inspect the property I get a variation sent that is more than 10% of the total project cost. So their quoting process might work for standard installed, but be careful of the quote.
Seems to be working ok so far, will see how it goes in summer.

Terrible RACQ Solar experience! Be warned!
We purchased a $27,000 solar PV system from RACQ only to find out that the system seriously underperforms by 25%+ less power generation than what was sold. RACQ have since admitted they miscalculated shade from trees surrounding our property. We're now taking them to court for misleading us as they will not remedy the issue, even after admitting that they stuffed up. Avoid RACQ Solar at all costs and if you are considering them because they're cheaper, be sure to check their proposed monthly power generation in detail before purchasing. They offer no support or solutions when things don't match what they design and sell. As a long-term RACQ customer, we expected better from RACQ and made the mistake of thinking RACQ was a reputable brand you could trust. Buyer beware!Panel rating: 5/5

RACQ Solar - Full marks
From the initial chat, to post installation, all communication has been easy, concise, factual and forthcoming.I suggested what I'd like the most out of my system, and was able to get quotes with and without batteries, so multiple systems were quoted.
They were able to supply the quality panels I wanted, and explain the differing specifications between inverters and batteries effectively.
Installation went through very easily and I couldn't be happier.
