South Australia As A Renewable Energy Powerhouse

South Australia Renewable Energy Powerhouse

A community meeting exploring the path to a clean, secure and affordable energy future for South Australia is to be held tomorrow night (Tuesday, October 3).

The Greens’ national energy spokesperson Adam Bandt and Senator Sarah Hanson-Young will be joined by SolarQuotes founder, Finn Peacock and Director of Asia Pacific for AES Energy Storage, Mark Leslie; who will be speaking at the event.

“South Australia is a powerhouse when it comes to embracing renewable technologies. It’s time we transition beyond fossil fuels,” says Senator Hanson-Young. Without a phased retirement plan, it is harder to plan for new investment in clean energy and build the electricity grid that can support renewable energy into the future.

As well as the bigger energy picture, there will also be discussion of South Australia’s considerable pulling power for renewable energy related ventures.

Finn Peacock’s talk is titled “How Banksy Helped 350,000 Australians Get Quotes For Solar”

“In my talk I will be revealing how SolarQuotes would never have started if it wasn’t for the involvement of guerrilla artist Banksy and a chance encounter in Glasgow in 2002.”

As well as outlining how SolarQuotes came to be, Finn will explain how and why the company ended up being based in Adelaide – and why Adelaide seems to attract people who are building Australia’s renewable energy industry.

Many of the quote requests SolarQuotes receives have also been from South Australians looking to slash their carbon footprint and/or save on electricity bills.

What it may lack in population compared to most states, South Australia makes up for in participation; with the state having the second highest solar penetration rate in the country. 32% of all detached/semi-detached dwellings in South Australia have solar panels installed.

Clean Energy Regulator data indicates South Australians have certainly been lifters rather than leaners in Australia’s small-scale solar revolution, with more than 213,000 small scale solar power systems and 58,000+ solar hot water systems and heat pumps installed throughout the state.

Event: Becoming a Renewable Energy Powerhouse
Where: The Hawke Centre, University of South Australia, North Terrace, Adelaide
When:  Tuesday, October 3, 6 PM – 8:30 PM

    Could we please have a comparison of each state/territory;
“32% of all detached/semi-detached dwellings in South Australia have solar panels installed.”

    Thank you in anticipation.

    Hello, Michael.

    Thank you for that.

The infographic included, includes almost all of the relevant information sought.

About the only information that I perceive to be missing, is the percentage of total generating capacity, by state/territory.
